Just read this on a Clinton/Jennings thread, from a Freeper: "Back in August of 1988, a new voice came on the radio, the lovable little fuzzball - el Rushbo. Prior to then, I avoided politics and editorials, because I thought I was alone in my views. I voted conservatively and privately. Then Rush gave a voice to conservative thought."
And it made me think of something I've been meaning to post for a while...
Carolyn
The same thing happened to me. When I lived in NY, I never bothered listening to him because of all the negative things I heard...
Imagine how much MORE true that was for me, living in Europe at the time! Filtering every bit of news through the International Herald Tribune and the brand new CNN International. Rush Limbaugh, why he must be a monster with three heads! The horrors!!
Then one night he was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, which was broadcast on the new NBC Superstation a day later. I took one look and couldn't believe it. He was a NORMAL HUMAN BEING, very funny, and made a lot of sense.
When I moved back here in 1994, the first thing I did was to listen to his radio show. I'm still listening 10 years later. He is a master at articulating issues so that you understand the meat but also pick up on what the other side is clinging to as their line of argument. He is very witty, most of it held out of sight on his show, with twinkly comments for those who get it. It would be hard not to love the guy.
Believe me, if it weren't for the money, no one would show up for work. Who named you?
I just KNEW one of you guys would show up spouting your ignorance. How do I know you are spouting ignorance? You subscribe to the liberal myth that, "he is just an entertainer." No one cares what you think anyway. You would probably like DU better. If you don't want to go to DU, try listening to Rush sometime. You might learn to understand him.
LOL
You must be just another jerk wanting to hear himself say something inane.
Amazing, eh? I hear FOX is coming to Canada. That should be interesting and a good counterpoint to Al-Jazeera.
I've been listening to Rush at least since 1990, mostly
when I travel with my husband and he has the car radio on.
The first time I ever heard Rush, he was saying, "Talent
on loan from GOD!" and I thought he was pretty bombastic;
then soon I was a mind-numbed robot, listening to Rush often
in order to get my marching orders of the day issued to us
Vast Right Wing Conspirators. He did this all with half
his brain tied behind his back, too. - I missed the marching
orders for this week. Can someone fill me in?
I listened to Rush from his start in Sacramento and thought he was great even then. Imagine now! Now, if I don't get my daily Rush fix (err...not pills), I am left distraught and nervous. You go, Rush! You be da man for sure!
Perfectly true. But then, if it weren't for the money you would never hear a word from Dan Rather - he's an entertainer, too.Let's face it, if someone told you all that was publicly known about Al Qaeda on September 10 you would have tuned it out because you would not have understood that it was important - you would have been bored.
Unless of course the person who was telling you about Al Qaeda was a great entertainer, in which case you might have listened and just might have been a little less surprised on September 11.
Do not think to insult Mr. Limbaugh by calling him an entertainer - he will take it as a compliment. He tries very hard to entertain.
"...but I would be foolish to dismiss his importance to the art world (or Rush's for conservatism)."
No doubt, Rush has done a lot to advance conservatism over the years, but Man of the Year 2004 ? Yassar Arafat made more important news this year by dying then Rush did for all his efforts ...
"You must be just another jerk wanting to hear himself say something inane."
Is that the most intelligent comment you have ?
( and you've been here almost as long as I have... maybe his kid found his password... )
I started listening to Rush after I met my then boyfriend, now husband. I was a liberal, the boyfriend conservative. He saw a potential in me and thought Rush would be a worthy source to change my way of thinking. 11 years later, I'm now the more conservative one and just asked for Rush 24/7 for Christmas. Thank you Rush for saving me from the bowels of liberalism! May God continue to bless you!
