BAGHDAD - A Marine who killed an unarmed wounded Iraqi in a Fallujah mosque "will be dealt with," the U.S. ambassador in Iraq said yesterday, as the military said it was looking into other deaths at the scene of the shooting.
"No one can be happy" about the incident, Ambassador John Negroponte said, "but the important point is that the individual in question will be dealt with."
Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's office said he is "very concerned" about the killing, but backed the U.S. efforts. "Unlike others, the prime minister will await the outcome of the investigation before commenting any further," his office said.
The shooting was filmed Saturday by an NBC reporter embedded with the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment. Military investigators also are looking to see whether other wounded insurgents were shot, said Maj. Francis Piccoli.
Two other men in the video appear to be suffering from what NBC called fresh and fatal gunshot wounds.
The footage, aired repeatedly on Arabic television, has sparked argument across the Arab world, with most saying it fuels anger against America. But some also blame insurgents for waging battle from mosques.
Despite the furor, Gen. Michael Hagee, commandant of the Marine Corps, defended placing journalists with troops.
At a House Armed Services Committee hearing yesterday, he rejected the claims of Rep. Silvestre Reyes (D-Tex.), who said, "We should not be providing the Al-Jazeera with the kind of propaganda that they've had."
Hagee said "embedded reporters have actually worked very well. They inform the American public about what these great young Americans are doing over there."

Hate to admit it but Reyes--even if he is a DEM--has it right. You do not need someone to babbysit, or to worry about them selling you out.
The more I here from or about Allawi the more I think he is stellar human being.
I'm beginning to think that my initial suspicious were right, and that they intend on prosecuting this guy. They may be looking for a 'pattern of abuse', if they're looking into the other deaths.
Which doesn't bode well. If they want to find legal grounds to start stringing people up, they've got it.
here = hear
Hmmm! In today's politicl climate, Ambassador Negroponte should be concerned that he might be the individual in question.
Hagee said "embedded reporters have actually worked very well. They inform the American public about what these great young Americans are doing over there."
---
I don't see any problem with it either, or with the NBC reporter. He shows what he films and reports what he sees. Thats his job.
WHAT is going on? Who's in charge here? The military? Or the politicians? Are we going to sacrifice this young man to the politicians in Washington or the UN? This sounds like "Who's on first?"
They better leave this Marine alone! I am really upset about these comments like "will be dealt with". I am also not hearing an uproar of support from Americans for this Marine. Are freeprs the ONLY ones in his corner?
In this case, he'd better hope it's the politicians. Because the military will probably try and bust him for violating the rules of engagement. It's very likely that his actions will be deemed wrong by the strict letter of the ROE.
It was just a matter of time before reality and the rules clashed on film. The Marine appears to be acting sensibly, given the terrorist's tactics of booby trapping bodies or using the wounded for suicide attacks. But the law won't take that into consideration. The enemy is expected to cheat, but servicemembers are expected to follow the rules. The Marine (it appears) didn't follow the rules, and I'll bet they're going to fry him.
HUH? I found NO online petition for MARINE at that site.....that's another discussion website as near as I can tell.....
And he films what he wants and reports what he thinks.
It's interesting to note the reporter (mr Sites) has his war photos proudly displayed on an anti-war web site. This is further proof that pictures without context are nothing but a pretext for cataloguing a photographer's or editor's agenda.
Had this anti-American, pacifist scumbag 'reporter' chronicled in his video how the Marine in question had been shot in the face during combat the day before, had just seen his buddies get killed and wounded due to a booby trapped body of a dead insurgent shortly before this incident, had shown the heat and intensity of the whole battle as it unfolded, and had included a clip on infantry training that teaches a wounded enemy is at his most dangerous state, then suddenly the "cold blooded murder" that the media whores are referring to looks much more like a highly justifiable combat reaction or an act of self defense. These filthy terrorists who hide their faces beneath masks are infamous for blowing up Americans after they get wounded. If you're going to tell a story TELL THE WHOLE F...ING STORY.
"Will be dealt with"? WTF does THAT mean????? In a war, it's kill or be killed. Enough of this PC crap already! Al Geeze Louisa needs to be bombed beyond recognition..... then NBC..... I cannot BELIEVE this!
Why the RAT site?
Lori, I'm hoping it was a "get out of my face we're dealing with our own" type statement to a horde of vultures.
Ooops!!! Totally wrong link..... this is the one instead...
