Hostettler mounting campaign to change the name of Interstate 69
By August Wayne, THG News
John Hostettler, the Congressman representing the 8th district of Indiana, has been convinced by local religious groups to introduce legislation in the House that would change the name of an Interstate 69 extension to a more moral sounding number.
There are plans to extend the interstate from Indianapolis through southwestern Indiana all the way through Texas into Mexico in the coming years. While most believe this highway will be good for the states economy, religious conservatives believe I-69 sounds too risqué and want to change the interstates number.
Hostettler, a proponent of the interstate extension, agrees. Every time I have been out in the public with an I-69 button on my lapel, teenagers point and snicker at it. I have had many ask me if they can have my button. I believe it is time to change the name of the highway. It is the moral thing to do.
As a matter of fact, naming the highways extension I-69 is a violation of the Interstate Highway Systems rules for numbering roads. Interstates numbers are to increase from west to east. If the extension through southern Indiana is named I-69, then 69 will be west of I-65, a direct violation.
Naming the road I-63 not only follows numbering guidelines, it doesnt have the sexual undertones that I-69 has, says Hostettler, It is a win-win situation.
The change will more than likely be introduced in committee when Congress convenes after the first of the year.

Yes, in order to change the name of Highway 69, I think its very important to mount a campaign!
Not in every case. I-85 is west of I-75 from Atlanta south to Montgomery, Ala. I 59 is east of I 65 from Birmingham to Chattanooga.
The Blue states do it as well. I 89 is east of I 91 for its run through New Hampshire.
They should change it to I-77. You get 8 more...
Does anyone know where I can get a button?
Actually, there is an I-77 running from Cleveland, through Charlotte, to at least Columbia SC.
As for I-69, it starts off as an east-west highway in Michigan, then goes north-south as it goes around Lansing. Where it crosses/merges with I-96. I kid you not.

I want the letters and numbers OICU812 removed from language...and there are too many lakes named Devil's Lake in the US...What is that? Some kind of Freemason/satanic cult thing!?!
You had to give them ideas...
The renamed Beaver College
I-69 travels Southwest as well and would still be East of I-65 in 90% of the Indiana. It also goes East in Michigan from Lansing to Port Huron even though most odd number highways go North South and not East West.
That said Exit 69 on I-75 in Michigan is Big Beaver Rd. Not a joke.
I-69 and I-96 intersect as well.
Web site's phony stories create headaches

"Look honey, we'll finally get there at the same time."
I live near a highway that used to Route 69 but they had to change it to 235. It cost too much to keep replacing the signs. They also renamed my road 239 because a church was built on it. I still use the address.. Helltown Rd.
I live right by Hell, MI.
" ::eye roll::"
You beat me to it :P
How moronic to worry about a number.... Those that might object would do so only if they knew what it means, and I doubt that they have a clue.
