The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Connect these dots, now

"We should have secured the Mexican border."

That could be the pitiful lament we hear from negligent U.S. officials if Al Qaeda pulls off an attack on the United States using weapons of mass destruction smuggled across our southern frontier.

Were that horrendous event to happen, leaders in the administration and Congress would be justly hit with the same question that was perhaps unjustly cast at them and their predecessors after the unprecedented Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: Why didn't they connect the dots?

U.S. Report Links Bin Laden, Rebels

The Moscow Times Osama bin Laden has been actively involved in the terrorist insurgency in Chechnya since 1995, sending al-Qaida agents to the North Caucasus and sponsoring Chechen rebels, according to a declassified U.S. intelligence report released by Judicial Watch, a U.S. public corruption watchdog, late last week.

Bin Laden sent Jordanian-born warlord Khattab, who is now dead, and nine instructors to Chechnya in 1995 to set up terrorist training camps, according to the six-page U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency report, which was based on notes from an unspecified person in 1998 and is marked at the top as not "finally evaluated intelligence."

It says bin Laden met several times in 1997 with Chechen and Dagestani Wahhabis and "settled the question of cooperation -- agreeing to provide 'financial supplies' to Chechen militants

Father of Saudi killed in Iraq to sue jihadist scholars

From Reuters, with thanks to Kemaste:

RIYADH - The father of a young Saudi fighter killed in Iraq is planning to sue religious scholars who called for jihad against US forces, Al-Medina newspaper reported on Sunday.

The paper said Majid Shabib al-Otaibi blamed the scholars, who declared “jihad (holy war) against the occupiers is a duty for all who are able”, for the death of his son Muqrin.

Majid Otaibi said he was standing up against preachers who tried to “corrupt the minds of young men”.

Typical liberal and typical communist: They totally fail to grasp the military mind. Here's proof: Story passed down in my family now all long gone of course, so there's no real verification but illustrative nonetheless. My Great Grandfather was a general officer in the army of the Czar in precommunist Russia circa 1916. At the time of the communist revolution he was with his division in the field and the order went out to the enlisted men to "assassinate your officers and return home." My gramps troops encircled HIM and said: You wanna kill him? Gotta kill US first! Such is the relationship of troops to a good commander. I've had commanders I felt that way about. But liberals/commies don't understand the mindset. All they see is oppression.
