Specter, a moderate on abortion rights . . .

Wonder what you'd have to do to qualify as a liberal on this subject?

Well, since he said he would not block them, I guess he's OK...

He would never lie.

Business as usual for all those hacks.

Talk the talk during elections, and once back in the seat, revert to the same good old boys freaking club where everyone scratches each others back.

Name me a man of metal, a real man to stand by his convictions up there. Call it like it is and let the chips fall where they may.

Specter, a moderate on abortion rights

If you fully support abortion rights, you're apparently "moderate."

The only "extremists" are those who think the child should live.

that's not the issue really. If Ginsburg were to step down, say. Will he block a conservative nominee to take her place?..or will he be too chicken and only replace conservative justices w/ conservative justices?

"I'm working on it," Specter said of the statement

Working on it! Working on it?!?

Working on it?!?!

In politics, if you don't feel it in your guts, prepare to get kicked in the nuts.

Even before the meeting, Specter was getting public statements of support from colleagues such as Hatch, Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John Warner, R-Va., and Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine.

Hatch is the only one I know leans pro-life, Snowe? HA!

Specter to declare publicly that he won't block anti-abortion judicial nominees

Much too little, Arlen. And much, much too late.

Now let me get this straight: He'd kill babies at the drop of a hat -- but one thing he wouldn't stoop to is lying. Yeah, right. Specter's apparent aversion to lying reminds me of Hitler's alleged love for dogs. Big damn deal.

After two days of appealing to fellow GOP senators, embattled Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania said he would make a public statement to assure Republicans at large he would not block anti-abortion judicial nominees from President Bush.

Arlen -- LYING IN PUBLIC -- again -- still. Get out Arlen, your toast!

Sorry Arlen, "not proven". Perhaps Specter shouldactually witness (for example) a partial birth abortion, watch the damn medical genocidal technician (cause it sure ain't no 'doctor' doing that kind of procedure) put that needle into the skull of an almost born baby, killing it, I am convinced the awful carnage of such a scene would surely convince Specter of the barbarity of abortion, the wrongness of his past position and he just might become an outspoken advocate for the rights of the unborn. Don't laugh yet, remember what happened to Paul on the Damascus Road. It could happen to Specter if enough Christians pray for him.

Why in the world should we trust this guy? No way in Hell, I say.

Say they give him the gavel and he keeps his promise (unlikely as that may seem) not to block on abortion issues. Is anyone dumb enough to think he and his liberal sneak friends are not going to find some other reason to stop a nomination they don't like?

They are experts at this. It won't be about abortion, oh no! Heaven forbid! It will be that the nominee's experience is not suitable, or that he has some other controversial opinion, or whatever.

Or he will just refuse to schedule a hearing on that nominee.

Arlen wants it too bad. That makes me suspicious in itself.

In addition to his pro-choice position, he is also:

1) a copyright nazi
2) an opponent of tort reform
3) anti-gun

This guy should NOT be the chairman.

If the committee votes for him, WE MUST FIGHT ALL OVER AGAIN, AS IT CAN BE APPEALED TO THE WHOLE GOP CAUCUS.

I prefer this outcome to seeing him caucus formally with the Democrats as long as he reports every Bush judicial nominee out of the committee for an up or down vote by the Senate.
