Bush Has Solid Lead in N.M. After Canvass

Wednesday November 17, 2004 11:01 PM

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - President Bush has kept his lead in New Mexico after the last county in the state to certify votes from the election completed its canvass Tuesday.

Democrat John Kerry picked up 206 votes in Dona Ana County, New Mexico's second largest, while Bush garnered an additional 100, giving him a 6,047-vote lead statewide in an unofficial Associated Press tally. Results from the official count will be released next week.

In 2000, Al Gore beat Bush in New Mexico by 366 votes.

Dona Ana County's review discovered 86 provisional votes missing, but they were found Tuesday in a private bathroom in a locked area that only staff members could enter.

Most New Mexico counties had finished their canvasses by Friday, but Dona Ana County's results were tied up because of disputes over provisional ballots.

Richardson is watching his chances of being Hill's Veep pick diminish as this state remains in G.W's column.

It explains his desperation of resorting to finding ballots in a bathroom. Only question is who will actually volunteer to count them.

I give up. I always thought us aussies and you guys had so much in common...but when I read about your election system and how you count your votes, well, the sh*te that goes on just leaves me confused and shaking my head. I mean, they do better in India, don't they? (Maybe even in Afghanistan, where ballot boxes are carted around by donkeys!)
When will your entire system finally be reformed?

Election law is left up to the states first, and in practice, to the counties. I agree that we need standardization, at least for federal elections. I think many people are realizing this right about now...

And Richardson was saying on election night how he was confident NM was going to Kerry...

This kind of c--p is making me sick! The more I hear about all this cheating going on in back rooms with these Rats hiding and stashing so called votes. It makes me question more than ever, it wasnt a close election at all in 2000! I beleive more than ever Gore didnt win NM in 2000 by 300 whatever votes. I believe evidence is becoming clear these RATS will do ''ANYTHING'' to try and win elections and we probably had a lot of states stolen from us in 2000,so the only good I can see out of all this is Republicans are going to have to keep an eagle eye on these cheaters for every fututre election and not let them get away with this stuff ever again!

When Democrats start going to jail for this crap. Bill Richardson would be a good start.

Ballots in the bathroom... this is so absurd it's embarassing.

Since when was used toilet paper counted as a valid ballot?

The brown stuff on it obviously means it is marked DEMOCRAP!

"Ballots in the bathroom...this is so absurd it's embarrassing."

Sure is. Can you imagine what the reaction might be if this sort of thing happened in Iraq?

Nothing, but nothing embarrases the left, though do does it? (Silly question...my own mother is a lefty. She says if people had the sense to follow Marx as it was meant to be, life would be heaven on earth. In her opinion, it's not the system that is flawed, it's the people running things.)

When Congressman Lyndon Johnson ran for one of Texas's U.S. Senate seats in 1948, he won by 87 votes, thanks in part to 202 votes in the "Box 13" ballot box that only appeared six days after the election (earning him the derisive nickname "Landslide Lyndon"). No wrongdoing was ever proved, but the six-day hiatus clearly establishes the vulnerability of paper ballots.

http://www.mdronline.com/mpr_public/editorials/edit14_47.html

Officials in Alice, said they found an additional 203 ballots in their "Box 13." Of these 203 ballots, 202 were for Johnson, leaving only one for Stevenson!

Vote Fraud. A Democrat Tradition.

I live in New Mexico. I grew up in New Mexico and I love New Mexico.....

And I must tell you, sir:

We have more in common, in this state, with Afghanistan than Austrailia.

That's so difficult for an aussie to imagine...what's going on there? Are the socialist inmates running the asylum?

We must be prepared better next time to keep an eye on the NM Rats. Despite a strong showing of Bush volunteers in Las Cruces, we were vastly outnumbered by Kerry mercenaries in the lawyer department, at least. I heard of some crazy stuff including reports of the Rats rounding up illegals to take them for provisional voting.

I voted early in AZ and headed over to help in Las Cruces where many Bush volunteers from all over were helping. We had 10-15 lawyers (all volunteers from LA, DC and all over), the Texas Strike Force (500 strong) many of whom had helped for a month or more, and others. Dozens of college students from NM State University and high schoolers were out there helping us too, all volunteers.

Nonetheless, the Rats had herds of lawyers (I was told over 100), and I also gathered they were not VOLUNTEERING their time. Probably there at the behest of George Soros. Even their street sign wavers were getting paid $10/hr. in Las Cruces and $12/hr. in Albuquerque. We way outnumbered the sign wavers who though small in number made up for it in the obnoxious quotient - we had to call the police, but the outnumbering in the lawyer department really did concern me.

I hope we do not let them pass through more legislation like the Provisional Vote thing, that will bite us in the rear in 4 years. I worry about our side becoming a bit vulnerable having won, because there is less motivation to "fix" the mess. But I agree with the posters who are betting that GW actually won way bigger than reported. Even though the cheating, lying crap on the part of the Rats did not do any real damage THIS time, we must be vigilant about any and all legislation and controversies surrounding the vote in this country!!!

This is like a National Lampoon movie. Maybe Richardson is going to find a couple thousand more votes for Kerry inadvertantly stuffed into Sandy Burgler's pants.

There should be a law against counting votes "found" in bathrooms or graveyards.

Simple rule: if you can't show 100% traceability and accountability on the ballot box or ballots, they are thrown out.
