A Marine Writes Home [regarding the killing of the "innocent" terrorist]
powerlineblog.com ^ | November 17, 2004 | A Marine

Posted on 11/17/2004 3:30:32 PM PST by snopercod

This is one story of many that people normally don't hear, and one that everyone does.

This is one most don't hear:

A young Marine and his cover man cautiously enter a room just recently filled with insurgents armed with Ak-47's and RPG's. There are three dead, another wailing in pain. The insurgent can be heard saying, "Mister, mister! Diktoor, diktoor(doctor)!" He is badly wounded, lying in a pool of his own blood. The Marine and his cover man slowly walk toward the injured man, scanning to make sure no enemies come from behind. In a split second, the pressure in the room greatly exceeds that of the outside, and the concussion seems to be felt before the blast is heard. Marines outside rush to the room, and look in horror as the dust gradually settles. The result is a room filled with the barely recognizable remains of the deceased, caused by an insurgent setting off several pounds of explosives.

The Marines' remains are gathered by teary eyed comrades, brothers in arms, and shipped home in a box. The families can only mourn over a casket and a picture of their loved one, a life cut short by someone who hid behind a white flag.

But no one hears these stories, except those who have lived to carry remains of a friend, and the families who loved the dead. No one hears this, so no one cares.

This is the story everyone hears:

A young Marine and his fire team cautiously enter a room just recently filled with insurgents armed with AK-47's and RPG's. There are three dead, another wailing in pain. The insugent can be heard saying, "Mister, mister! Diktoor, diktoor(doctor)!" He is badly wounded. Suddenly, he pulls from under his bloody clothes a grenade, without the pin. The explosion rocks the room, killing one Marine, wounding the others. The young Marine catches shrapnel in the face.

The next day, same Marine, same type of situation, a different story. The young Marine and his cover man enter a room with two wounded insurgents. One lies on the floor in puddle of blood, another against the wall. A reporter and his camera survey the wreckage inside, and in the background can be heard the voice of a Marine, "He's moving, he's moving!"

The pop of a rifle is heard, and the insurgent against the wall is now dead. Minutes, hours later, the scene is aired on national television, and the Marine is being held for commiting a war crime. Unlawful killing.

And now, another Marine has the possibility of being burned at the stake for protecting the life of his brethren. His family now wrings their hands in grief, tears streaming down their face. Brother, should I have been in your boots, i too would have done the same.

For those of you who don't know, we Marines, Band of Brothers, Jarheads, Leathernecks, etc., do not fight because we think it is right, or think it is wrong. We are here for the man to our left, and the man to our right. We choose to give our lives so that the man or woman next to us can go home and see their husbands, wives, children, friends and families.

For those of you who sit on your couches in front of your television, and choose to condemn this man's actions, I have but one thing to say to you. Get out of your recliner, lace up my boots, pick up a rifle, leave your family behind and join me. See what I've seen, walk where I have walked. To those of you who support us, my sincerest gratitude. You keep us alive.

I am a Marine currently doing his second tour in Iraq. These are my opinions and mine alone. They do not represent those of the Marine Corps or of the US military, or any other.

These MF's (Muslim Fundamentalists) do not observe the Geneva Convention. The MF say the only follow the conventions of war as stated in the Koran, but they just put a bullet in the head of Margret Hassan, in violation of even the koran.

The Genevea convention states that if you don't follow the rules of war you are not protected by them.

The MF's have been using false surrender since the beginning of the war, it is there main tactic. Pretend to be an ordinary citizen then drive your car up and blow yourself up!

If you have any doubt, Kill the MF and have another MF move the body.

Right on!

That Marine in Falluja killed a terrorist. In the heat of battle. I don't understand what all the fuss is about. The liberals are whining because one of our heroes killed a terrorist. This is the War on Terror, is it not?

Last I checked Al-queda was not a signatory to the Geneva Conventions. What we are facing is nothing more than yelping from the "world" and "arab street" demanding that we abide by something that clearly does not apply. Even if it did, the first time they used the booby-trapped corpse or false surrender ploy, that scrap of paper becomes null & void. This is sort of like the constant reference by the leftists to the separation between church and state that can't be found in the constitution.

Thanks for the link.

I would prosecute these troopers' commanding officers under the U.C.M.J., for failure to administer security on the matter of revealing identities.

These troopers' families are now known to the terrorists.

Which is probably Mr. Sites' purpose.

Yet our leaders should be hung out to dry for failure to enforce the rules and the law.

Including, the fact that all news and information is subject to review before release to the public. Excepting that the Bush Administration is run by lawyers, or other people who are afraid of or lawyers' subjects.

The willful disregard of lessons learned, of the law, of the rules set up to protect our people ... and the arrogance of the Bush-Bots in and out of office, opening vulnerability after vulnerability, and then defending that ignorance by stating things like, "Well, we can't be everywhere doing everything."

No, I will not vote for Rice; I will vote against Rice; because she lied.

We did know that a civilian aircraft could and would likely be used as a weapon against civilian targets.

Furthermore, the President knew, and his people knew, and the generals and admirals and colonels and captains knew, too.

We would have lost Iraq by now, if not for the efforts of people OUTSIDE THE LOOP, who have spent time they have not got, to try and get ammo, armored vehicles, and body armor to Iraq and *other* places not in the news.

The Bush Administration is screwing up, because few, if any, want or know or have the guts to lead.

The leading that is being done, is so, by self-disciplined military (and some civilian) leaders, here and there, who are standing up DESPITE THE BUSH-BOTS.

This is also where, I repeat again, that we need many more troops ... and aircraft ... and maintenance support for them all.

Not to mention, the duties of the censors who are supposed to review ALL information flowing from the war zone.

Having said that, there is no evidence, even in the photos, that the young Marine had reason to believe that the "wounded" terrorist was not a threat, so the odds favor the Marine, and may God embrace him and the lost man who attempted to take advantage of that Marine's good grace.

In that same situation, firing first is understandable.
The guy moves and you don't know if he's armed or not.

Good point on the identity of the soldier.

Your comment on Rice went over my head.

"You keep us alive."

It is you, Marine, and your brave band that keeps us and everything we stand for, alive in a world dedicated to our destruction. You are all in our prayers. You do your Conutry proud, with a tinge of humility, as we realize there is no way we can properly repay you or properly thank you for your Service.

I believe I speak for everyone on this Free Republic board, when I promise you that this Marine that the MSM and extreme left wing loonies of every ilk, are intent upon crucifying-will get their wish, only over our dead bodies. I do mean that literally.

You don't get a chance to vote for "DOCTOR" Rice, I am happy to report. Not unless she consents to bless this country with a run for President in 08. And in that case you witholding your vote would be as disasterous as one drop of rain missing the ocean.

I don't believe that "DOCTOR" Rice ever intentionally lied about anything in her life. But assuming she has lied once or twice in her life-that is going to drive you to vote for her opponent, who has only told the truth, once or twice in her life???
