This article also doesn't mention that this is not the first Book Scheuer wrote
I doubt there is anyone this side of the liberal looney left, who is under the delusion that this war is going away. Making Israel a sacrifical lamd to appease the Hate filled Muslim terrorists and their God, Howling Mad Allah; would accomplish nothing. Their rabid hatred is against every human on earth that has not been Allahized.
They hate everybody-they have just hated the Jews longer.
Yep .. because he thinks he is right and everyone else is wrong
The book doesn't have policy advice. It's got debating points for the American people to think about and decide.
I think it's worth reading and thinking about, if you're willing to think about things from a point of view you may find disturbing.
Many people prefer to only read things they agree with. If so, you probably won't like the book at all.
bump!
You are right about this creep...and about the CIA.
With statements like the following this country is not being served properly by the CIA.
"Most dramatically, and perhaps least noticed, is the violence inside Saudi Arabia itself. Saudi Arabia was, until just a few years ago, probably one of the most safe countries on earth.
One of the safest places on earth? What incredible shortsighteness. Beheadings, stonings, violence against women and chattel slaves---it's unbelievable to say that SA was ever a safe country. Never has been.
You really should read it.
That's right. Scheuer said the warnings were in the 1990's, through 1999. More evidence of the monumental negligence of the Clinton administration -- which continues to get a free pass from the media.
I saw the guy on 60 misinfomintues.
I don't know what to make of him.
I do know one thing, that is the CIA and White House are in a power struggle. Goss is exactly what the agency needs right now.
What happened is the during the Clinton admin, the agency circled the wagons and tried to consolidate as much power as possible.
Now the White House needs people briefing the president and that is becoming a problem because some of the officers are carrying thier own agenda.
I think perhaps this guys is one of the officers from the old regime. Who in his own world weilded some power, but now is being asked to be team player. Unfortunatley, he feels somewhat miffed that he has never been given the credit he is due. Thus he writes a book, so he can grab the spotlight that he had lost after 9/11.
Post 9/11 there were a lot of people digging into what used to be his baby.
I doubt very, very seriously that any "accord" between Israel, and the Palestinians will stop the terrorist's from terrorizing....
In Scheuer's case, Option C turns out to be a policy of averting terrorism by figuring out what the terrorists want, and then giving it to them. Such a policy of shall we call it "conciliation"? is feasible in Scheuer's opinion because Osama bin Laden and his Islamists are guided by defined and indeed "limited" goals:
First, the end of all U.S. aid to Israel, the elimination of the Jewish state, and in its stead the creation of an Islamic Palestinian state. Second, the withdrawal of all U.S. and Western military forces from the Arabian peninsula a shift of most units from Saudi Arabia to Qatar fools no Muslims and will not cut the mustard and all Muslim territory. Third, the end of all U.S. involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq. Fourth, the end of U.S. support for, and acquiescence in, the oppression of Muslims by the Chinese, Russian, Indian, and other governments. Fifth, restoration of full Muslim control over the Islamic world's energy resources and a return to market prices [sic], ending the impoverishment of Muslims caused by oil prices set by Arab regimes to placate the West. Sixth, the replacement of U.S.-protected Muslim regimes that do not govern according to Islam by regimes that do. For bin Laden, only Mullah Omar's Afghanistan met these criteria; other Muslim regimes are candidates for annihilation.
We've all heard this list before; what's new here is a senior U.S. counterterrorism official agreeing that the demands included on it can and should be met. Yet so Scheuer does: "We can either reaffirm current policies, thereby denying their role in creating the hatred bin Laden personifies, or we can examine and debate the reality we face, the threat we must defeat, and then if deemed necessary devise policies that better suit U.S. interests."
With all due respect, I'll stick to my interpretation of the book rather than Frum's. And suggest that if you want to know what Scheuer actually said, read it yourself.
If you don't want to give him your money, check it out from your local library.
But I think it's common courtesy to actually read a book before you object to the author's message.
Exactly.
And he's RUNNING the desk looking for bin Laden?
I fixed my post. Read my correction immediately after I posted. Thank you. Thank you very much.
PS: the guy still strikes me as an outcome based educrat.
Somebody on here the other day said something that I hadn't considered: that Gore losing the election was the best thing that ever happened to Clinton in light of 9-11; think about it.
This guy is a PANTLOAD!
I have seen this guy all over TV this weekend; I don't need to read the book.
Complete failure. And a damn indictment of the absolute dumbing down that took place during the PC years under Clinton. That fool put politics above everything, national security being the most glaring example. Worst President ever.
