You're right, but that doesn't totally explain why Colin Powell did not elicit this hysterical reaction from the left. Maybe, just maybe, it had to do with the fact that they thought Powell would carry their water, whereas they know Condi won't? Also, because they knew Powell was not that close to Bush, therefore was not as big a threat.
I also heard Larry Johnson on Greta van Susteren(I think) last night. He was calling Condi 'totally incompetent' and other similar vitriol.
The left is really going after her with all the hatred and venom they can muster.

They WERE hysterical about Powell. They called him an Uncle Tom, a house n*****, and many other choice words.

I don't know if that's going to happen, but it sure would be fun to watch.
I have no doubt that part of the reason they're so hysterical is because they see Rice as a threat. For all of their talk about how she's supposed to be an unthinking mirror, I think the democratic leadership understands quite well that she's a serious threat simply because she's very intelligent.
