Tomorrow he'll fly in Islamic terrorists to verify the reporter's story that this Marine should be executed before a firing squad.

Now that the election is over they can expose their true hatred for the military. I knew that "we support the troops" stuff was a load of bullshit all along.....

so, abu graib wasn't an anomaly. all the MSM really does care about is when the crush of war hits the insurgents -- complete with either color photos or video, of course.

We had a Marine from our town killed this week also. He wrestled throughout high school with my son, also 24 yrs old. I feel absolutely NO pity for any dead Iraqis.

Issue the order. They obey or die. Simple.

Kill the mutha- $ucka. I would personally shoot him 1 more time for the f*uck of it. SHOOT THE MESSENGER!

Maybe I am misunderstanding you. Are you suggesting killing Koppel?

If you are, you are way out of line.

Anything to undermine the morale of our troops--definitely treason in a time of war.

Damn, this was a missed op. The insurgents really let me down.

Ted K could've had a date with reality had the insurgents been on the ball that day.

I don't want Ted K dead, I just want whatever needs to happen to make him take our side to happen.

"The fact of the matter is that war changes men's natures. The barbarities of war are seldom committed by abnormal men. The tragedy of war is that these horrors are committed by normal men in abnormal situations; situations in which the ebb and flow of everyday life have departed and have been replaced by a constant round of fear and anger, blood and death. Soldiers at war are not to be judged by civilian rules . . . Even though they commit acts which calmly viewed afterwards could only be seen as unchristian and brutal . . . [W]e can not hope to judge such matters unless we ourselves have been submitted to the same pressures, the same provocations, as these men, whose actions are on trial."

How right you are. This whole embedding business has to stop. While there are some benefits to it, I think the downside is just too great. This war is as much about perception as it is about reality, and in a war it is just too easy to criticise just about everything. Having it on video, really just makes it 100 times worse. The reporters can follow the troops as they clear certain areas, but that's it. Don't put them in an actual fighting unit.

The VC was armed, and hadn't surrendered already. This prisoner had surrendered and was unarmed. Of course, the Marine didn't seem to realize that at the time he shot. It seems to be a mistake with tragic consequences, as it will be a black eye on a great job done by the troops. :-(

Yes, although others on here have suggested killing the reporters who are covering the troops. :-(

Is treason still a crime in this country?

Will the government ever find the guts to try somebody for it again?

in fairness to Ted, remember how he really went after Kerry and his bogus Silver Star citation

I know what you mean, because the 'Kerry' was John O'Neill for daring to raise questions about Kerry. People remember Larry O'Donnell for doing his Sam Kinnison impression on national tv. But that interview with O'Neill, if you'll remember, saw Ted Koppel literally try to talk over, almost shout down, John O'Neill because O'Neill would not say the words Koppel wanted to put in his mouth.

Too many people defend this hack, Koppel. I see it even on the weblogs. A serious reporter, someone just interested in the truth, doesn't shout somebody down, or harass them, because they won't say something that isn't true. Koppel is no journalist. Some of these people need to remember that interview. That's Ted Koppel. Folks want to defend Koppel, then start with that. Cause that's who he is.

This prisoner had surrendered and was unarmed.

Not so. Here's the account from another thread:

A second group of Marines entered the mosque on Saturday after reports it had been reoccupied.

Footage from the embedded television crew showed the five still in the mosque, although several appeared to be already close to death, Sites said.

He said one Marine noticed one of the prisoners was still breathing.

A Marine can be heard saying on the pool footage provided to Reuters Television: "He's fucking faking he's dead. He faking he's fucking dead."

It is not accurate to call him a prisoner. The marines were attacking a mosque that they thought had been reoccupied.

The wounded terrorist was therefore not a prisoner. And because he was either playing dead or unconscious, he had not surrendered.
