Can the Pentagon charge Kevin Sites?

Posted on 11/16/2004 1:07:33 PM PST by nothernlights

Was not the reporter under the duty to hand over this tape to military authorities, under the rules of imbeds? If that's the case then strong measures should be taken against Sites. Also has Sites been removed from that Marine unit, because at this point i"m sure his presence is a distraction to the Marines and therefore endangers their lives. Sites has to be removed from that unit at the very least.

I think it is just plain old common sense that is lacking. He would rationalize that Tokyo Rose was a patriot if given enough time.

I don't think you're ready yet for an answer. I will give you this to chew on. You know how the president grants special access to certain reporters for personal interviews, while denying others? (That's a hint.)

You don't have an answer. You just have a whole bunch of juvenile spite.

Thankfully, our military and government is run by grownups who understand how to deal with the media.

The adults are talking now, sweetie. Maybe in a few years you'll be able to join them.

The military would never have allowed this video to be made public without first obscurring the marines faces.

Read the embed rules I sent you a while back and find where the military has the power to obscure marines' faces. When was the last time any soldiers' faces where obscured on TV?

That is, if you're not too busy chasing ambulances.

You know the opposition is a coward and a fool when it resorts to personal attacks.

Pot, meet kettle.

"Why are so many FReepers feel required to demand the murder of the reporter for showing that wars aren't a Nintendo game?"

Yours is a valid question, however the "guilt" should fall squarely on Sites for not revealing he had prior knowledge of the wounded until after the Marine fired. Only afterwards, when the inbred reporter revealed what he did, the Marine said, "I didn't know, sir."

Why should the reporter not be held more highly responsible when he set the Marines up for this incident? If he knew they were wounded and unarmed, why was he crouched behind the Marines for "protection"?

IMO, this reporter should be hung out to dry and beaten like a pinata.

I have a feeling that if Sites is asked to testify he may say things that are actually benefical to the Marine's defense, either because of enlightened self interest or just maybe those are the facts.

Hi tsr_dog, welcome to FR. Some friendly advice, if I may. If you wish your tenure here to be longer than a few hours, I'd suggest you be careful about painting all conservatives with such a broad brush. As you can see, there are strong differences of opinion among conservatives right on this very thread. Saying things like

"I see that the American conservative is showing his true face in this forum - death threats, advocating mob justice, hatred of the media (which is antithetical to what the founding fathers felt, such as Thomas Jefferson), and the whole wingnut ball of wax. The new right traitors in America have destroyed the America of the founding fathers and built their own Taliban style of government"

will earn you a quick trip to Zotsville. May I suggest you stick to debating facts and issues, and avoid stereotyping and this sort of hyperventilating rhetoric.

I love it when residents of the most secular, Mammon following state in the world start talking about 'God'. Ireland? Did England GIVE you what you were WHINING for yet?

How were previous generations of Americans ever able to trust our military to do the right thing and protect our interests without a cameraman and reporter peering over the shoulder of every uniform? How fortunate we are that there are so many objective journalists willing to quietly and selflessly risk their lives to bring the truth as they see it to the American people.

The ingratitude of the American military and the civilian populace toward the news media is frustrating but understandable. The task of the courageous journalist is to bear up under this rough criticism and still perform a duty that serves the common good with more effectiveness than any other profession. The few, the proud...
