Marine accused of wrongful shooting needs our help...
16 nov 04 | Atlanta

Posted on 11/16/2004 4:34:34 AM PST by Atlanta

I'm going to start with a communication of support of this young Marine, to the Commandant of the Marine Corps himself. Then, President Bush and my Senator/Congressman.They are going to hear from me and I have all friggin day to do it. I am so livid about this that words cannot describe. As a former Marine myself, this young "Leather" was doing what he was trained to do, adapting to unreasonable circumstances (enemy tricks) and he did exactly what I would have done and what has always been done with a fanatical enemy. If authorities hang this Marine out to dry, I will never stop raising hell and will become a point man for pulling these guys out of theater entirely...MSM is SICK. Other suggestions?

Call who?

Put some fat NBC and General Electric execs out there with an M-16 and let them defend us. They would be shooting at anything.

MSNBC just showed a more prepared report from Sites. In this report, he says few of the things he said in the earlier report during Imus. It is unclear which report is newer.

I wonder if MSNBC is suppressing what Sites said during Imus? The Imus report was much more emphatic...

Beyond ruining this courageous young man's life when he is still in danger, they are producing propaganda for our enemies...

Sick and insane. And you should have heard the glee in the NBC radio report.....

" can't think of anything more visceral than getting shot at in combat. Or seeing your buddies get blown up by booby trapped bodies."

The Holiday block buster movie season is upon us. Verity doesn't want anything distracting from *its* leisure schedule like (gosh) realities of war.

What don't you understand?

By law, an Article 32 investigation must be conducted by the local GCM authority. By law no commander in the chain can influence the investigation. We do not need the damned media to start alleging "coverup."

I'll do what I can to help. Send e-mails to NBC, slander the reporter wherever I can, etc.

Wisconsin has lost SIX Marines and Soldiers in this battle for Fallujah. I didn't see anyone filming their "executions!"

Gawd. This double-standard is sickening. They need to get those frickin' reporters out of there and let our guys do their jobs.

LOL You better believe most of cushy CEO pansies with their soft chubby little hands would be spraying bullets into the air like it were Mardi Gras with a trickle of their own urine running down their leg.

The terrorists we are fighting in places like Fallujah are "unlawful combatants" and as such should not be afforded any of the protections extended by international law to "lawful combatants." I think it was a mistake for the Bush administration to extend such protections in circumstances that clearly did not warrant them. This young marine's case is just the latest example of why this misguided policy is a bad idea.

Simply put, "lawful combatants" are members of organized armed forces who are entitled under international law to certain protections. "Unlawful combatants," by contrast, are members of armed criminal gangs rather than members of a regular army, and they do not qualify for the same treatment. For example, to be protected under the Geneva Conventions, a soldier must belong to an organized military force. To qualify for protection, this force must have a chain of command, wear a recognizable uniform, follow the laws of war (which means, among other things, not targeting civilians), and must carry their arms openly. Clearly, the criminals we are fighting in Iraq fail each of these tests miserably.

The senior military and civilian leadership had better stand up and support this young marine. For it was they that put him in the untenable situation of having to fight an enemy that does not even pretend to adhere to the internationally accepted laws of land warfare.

You may find your judgment incorrect because you weren't there. You are making the same mistake that mindbender has made. Drawing conclusions of guilt without the facts is an error...

Remind me not to have you watch my back should the situtation arise. You pull out that conventions of war book and look up wether or not I can blow that jokers head off aiming his rifle at you, as you thumb through the pages.

I think that concentrating on the affiliates might be a good starting point.

Red states especially won't put up with this crap. I will call my local NBC affiliate in Atlanta and complain. I will also write a letter against them to the FCC about showing a tape received by questionable means. The tape should have gone to DoD first.

I am going into complete "Rather" alert and retracing my steps I made against CBS.

I'm on hold with them now. I never know what to say during calls like this. Any suggestions so that I don't sound like a babbling idiot??

Not to worry. The Corps is not some liberal "PC" outfit and those of us who are or were ever in the Marines and actually in combat know that when in doubt you "shoot first and ask questions later."
The Corps will not "throw this Marine over" and will stand behind him regardless of what the liberal media has to say.
War is not Hollywood, you don't get a "second take."

Semper Fi,
Kelly

Sites should be trashed for releasing a video that has not been investigated, and NBC should suffer the same fate.

His reputation should be dirt, for implicating a soldier for murder without benefit of an investigation first.

Along with Matthews, and CNN, who have double standards when it comes to the brutality of the "insurgents" against the Iraqi people.
