"The ease at which Bush appeared headed to re-election as Governor fueled increasing speculation that George W. could be, or would be a candidate for President in Year 2000. By September 1998, polls showed that 55...."
Two years before the election and Gore was a sure dem candidate...Don't panic..We have time.
Breaking:
Iran agrees to give up plans to acquire weapons grade uranium.
Chris Matthews Show:
Sam Donaldson just stated that Reagan was an "idealoge" unlike Clinton " who just wanted to win"
BTW, Andrew Sullivan is the token conservative on the show.
That show was so outrageous Campbell Brown was the voice of reason..!!!!
The radical Left has been pushing the whole Bob Jones thing, trying to claim that through Bob Jones that Republicans are somehow anti-Catholic. Someone needs to remind them that Senator Santorum is pro-life, Catholic, and Republican. We love Santorum!
Clearly one of the good guys. I'm Catholic and I don't feel any concern whatever about the direction of the Republican Party. Having just finished a losing campaign filled with scare tactics, they are at it again.
Thats not the case for Rudy - Rudy had prostrate cancer (which by the way Kerry had) and was completely cured of it. He is cancerfree which unlike Tsongas had a different cancer.
I had dinner with my oldest and dearest friend on Friday(50+ years). She and her husband are died in the wool Dems. She said she will vote for any Republican ,for the first time, if Hillary runs.
Interesting..and although only one couple, affirms my opinion there are many who feel this way.
you can count me in as well. I am a dem that newly signed up for this site. Noway would I vote for Hillary. The dems are idiots if she gets the nomination. Losing repeatedly because the far left took over the party should give them a darn clue. Dean as party chair is ridiculous as well. Good grief..what happened to my party?
Bump
I know this thread is over but I just got home. Forget Jeb Bush -he is really good man but not President material. Also, not worth wasting talking about Arnold -for all of the obvious reasons. My intuition -and it is very good -is that there is no one that is an obvious candidate in the 'known'group.
I don't understand why all of these 'moderate' pubbies (liberal socially) are even being mentioned/considered.
I just keep thinking that W really came out of nowhere to run and win. Hopefully there is someone else like that.
"Don't want to be morbid, but doesn't anyone remember that Rudy had a nasty case of CANCER?"
It was NOT a 'nasty case of CANCER'! Prostate cancer is quite cureable and rarely leads to any other critical problems.
My caption:
And when his brain fell out his ear, it was this long!
Im just getting caught up on the thread but will offer this anyway. Look at current state governors to find the GOP candidate for 2008. No senator has won since Kennedy. Also, governors have experience running something other than an office staff and have had to make executive decisions, unlike the dictatorial representatives or senators. Rudy Giuliani could win nationally but he would not win a GOP primary across the nation, so he would be a long shot.
