I guess I'm kind of a 'leave-it-up-to-God' sort of guy and I have never tried to influence his mysterious ways one way or another. Even though I may not post on the prayer threads, I always read them and offer my heathen prayers in silent absentia. Can you do the same?
I guess what I am saying is that I DO believe (somewhere) that God has power and desire to help us here on earth. I can handle Mom's death, but I have little one's that need her around as an anchor.
Can I ask for prayer even if I am half-hearted in my own belief?

I will pray for your mother.
Coincidentally, my mother was a WWII Army nurse, and my dad was a C-47 pilot, flying The Hump and also in Italy and North Africa.

Prayers for you.
My Pop died a few weeks back. I actually had 3 deaths in a 1 week or so period this summer in my family. It can be a difficult time. Be strong, as I suspect you actually are.
Years ago I learned from someone that I loved and admired deeply that "everything happens for a reason."
I believe that.

"I can handle Mom's death, but I have little one's that need her around as an anchor. Can I ask for prayer even if I am half-hearted in my own belief?" As an atheist, I cant offer a prayer, but you sound like an ideal anchor for your kids. Its sobering when people pass like this. My 85 yo mothers not far from going. Whatever becomes of her passing, your family is a monument to her honor, and Im sure youre up to taking the baton.

Asking for prayer is a wonderfully self-less thing to do. You and your mom will be in my prayers.
