Zogby Now a PR Firm:
Just yesterday I participated in the Nov. 10 Zogby On-line Poll (invitation only). Aside from being far more lengthy than usual, I was struck by the advocacy nature of the questions. Rather than being content to survey attitudes, it was very clear to me that Zogby was trying to influence and to change those attitudes, at least regarding what must be a new customer for them: The government of the Peoples Republic of Viet Nam.
That was my conclusion, at least. Here are the questions regarding Viet Nam: you be the judge, but it looks to me as if Zogby have crossed the line between polling firm and advertising/public relations firm!
--------------------------------
Now some questions about Vietnam. What is your overall opinion of Vietnam as a country?
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced it would support Vietnam's entry into the World Trade Organization to open up that country's 80 million consumers to American products. Do you agree or disagree with this decision?
Do you think from what you hear that Vietnam offers religious freedom?
If you were told that Vietnam had 22,000 churches and Buddhist temples that were open daily for prayer-and that the Catholic church has doubled its size in the last 25 years would you change your mind?
Do you agree or disagree that Vietnam's invasion of Cambodia in 1978 to get rid of the Chinese-backed Khmer Rouge is proof that Vietnam does not support despotic governments?
Vietnam is taking steps toward a free market economy and it currently has a one party system. Do you agree or disagree that the country can be a free market economy with a one-party system?
The Vietnamese government has been working with American veterans groups to account for American MIAs from that conflict. More than 700 of the 1,800 American MIAs have been accounted for. Do you agree or disagree that Congress should thank veterans groups and the government of Vietnam for their efforts in recovering MIAs?
Have you ever traveled to Asia?
If actor Chuck Norris, who starred in a number of Vietnam War movies, were to tell you that the country has done a great job with recovering American MIAs and that the country was a great place to visit, would his endorsement affect your opinion of this country?
If Senator John McCain, a former POW in the Vietnam War, were to tell you that the country has done a great job with recovering American MIAs and that the country was a great place to visit, would his endorsement affect your opinion of this country? (Especially not him!)
If Lt. Col. Oliver North were to tell you that the country has done a great job with recovering American MIAs and that the country was a great place to visit, would his endorsement affect your opinion of this country?
Here are two statements about Vietnam. Please pick which comes closer to your view - A or B? Statement A: Vietnam has a repressive government with a questionable human rights record. Statement B: Vietnam is a progressive country with an improved human rights record.
BTW, I'm a long-time member, but my regular screen-name would make it too easy for Zogby to figure out who I am. I've been participating in the Zogby on-line polls for a couple years now, and I'd like to continue to do so.
I put Zogby on my e-mail spam list.
"I put Zogby on my e-mail spam list."
Me too!
Zogby busted himself by using the bogus early exit polls as his "Final" poll numbers.
This question especially annoys me:
"Yes, Congress should thank veterans' groups;"
"NFW should Congress thank Viet Nam!"
How do you think Zogby would interpret a "Yes" answer here?
As an endorsement of Viet Nam, of course!
What's the "Percentage of Error" point spread for a polling company that has an agenda?
Zogby has 0 credibility.
Push poll? That's a "beat you up, toss you in the trunk and take you for a drive" poll.
That's exactly what this is; I was surprised though to see this so clearly demonstrated!
Yes, it was obvious to me, too, that Zogby has a new client...the govt. of Viet Nam. I wondered how many
"yes" buttons were punched for the one about United and another Air Lines "now have direct flights to Viet Nam. Would you use this airlines?"
And WHERE are all these positive economic endorsments of Viet Nam by Ollie North et al. to be seen/heard? I sure missed them if they have been on TV!
You might well be right;
next I'm going to post his NRA-related questions.
Those look like he might well have been hired by the "Brady Bunch!"
["The Vietnamese government has been working with American veterans groups to account for American MIAs from that confliict. More than 700 of the 1,800 American MIAs have been accounted for. Gee...why don't we ask John Kerry about those left behind. He had a chance to find many of these men in the mid-ninties and chose to ignore Vietnam Vets again. Instead, he dismissed the possibility that some were still there being held in prisons even now, and opted to ensure his cousin got a nice little business deal going with Vietnam instead.
No, it said "IF" Ollie North were to tell you that the country has done a great job..."
So: they've hired or are considering hiring Col. North, if his name tests well!
Thinking about how you voted for President on November 2nd, which of the following influenced your vote. |
|
Debates | |
The economy | |
The war in Iraq | |
Kerry's remarks about Dick Cheney's daughter | |
The moral drift of the country | |
The social drift of the country | |
Campaigning by Michael Moore, Hollywood and entertainment celebrities | |
The Patriot Act | |
Potential for the next president to appoint two or three new U.S. Supreme Court Justices | |
Gay rights | |
No flu vaccine | |
Fear of draft | |
Privatization of social security | |
Stem cell research | |
Abortion issue | |
Stock Market | |
Theresa Heinz Kerry | |
Laura Bush | |
None of these/other | |
Not sure | |
Don't Know | |
Refused |
I do the same polls and I agree with you!
Oh, I get it: Sarcasm! arh arh arh!
</Mork imitation>
Didn't you love those?
Who in their right mind would be influenced in their choice for President by a temporary shortage of flu vaccine?
(I answered "Potential for the next president to appoint two or three new U.S. Supreme Court Justices")
