Pres. Bush has now garnered a truly astounding 60,724,666 votes in the 2004 election, and there are still hundreds of thousands of votes remaining to be counted. Not only has Pres. Bush exceeded his 2000 total by more than 10 million votes, he has also broken Pres. Reagan's 1984 vote record by more than 6 million votes!! The AP election results which are linked to this post are way behind because they do not include an add'l 517,000 votes that Pres. Bush has received in CA plus hundreds of thousands of add'l votes that Pres. Bush has received in AZ, MD, NC, OR, RI, SC, and VA. See below for vote totals by state that was compiled from the secretaries of state websites.

Bush will end up with more than 61 million votes since CA alone has hundreds of thousands of absentee ballots that have yet to be counted.

Do absentee ballots "have to be counted" in states where the vote margin was not close?

I seem to remember from the 2000 election that military and absentee ballots are normally just thrown out -- unless the margin of victory in the regularly cast ballots for that particular state was under 1% or so.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see all valid absentee ballots counted, no matter what. But my understanding was that that's not the way it's done.

Well, if you MUST know...
Select the original data.
Paste it into excel.
put a formula in cell D1 =A1-B1
Drag d1 down to d51 and formulas cover the range
B52 = Sum(B1:B51), C52=Sum(C1:C52), D52 = B52-C52
save the excel doc as text, delinated by tabs
open the text doc in UltraEdit
mass replace tabs and carriage returns to table cell formatting
Select all
Paste into post on FR.
:) Insert header row

All absentee ballots MUST be counted. They are as valid as any other type of vote. In fact, on the West Coast, the entire state of OR votes absentee by mail, and more than 30% of CA and WA voters also vote by absentee ballot. In CA, absentee ballots that are received before election day are counted and included with the election night totals. The absentee ballots that are received on the day of the election (or dropped off at the polls) are counted after election day. The total post-election night absentee ballots in CA is over two million of which 1,065,000 have already been counted (as of last night). This is the major reason why Pres. Bush's lead in narrowing in the national vote count. Kerry is taking a slight majority of the recently counted CA absentee ballots (51.5%).

California provided George W. Bush with about 1 out of every 12 votes he received. No electoral votes; but if popular vote lends a degree of respectibilty to the electoral vote, then California contributed mightily.

And we sent 20 Representatives to the House.

Wow, over 6,000,000 votes for Dubya! This is fabulous - glad the tally keeps growing. Can't wait to hear the final count announced on the MSM/Old Media (/sarcasm).

Thanks for the ping! ;-)

Darn, was hoping he's move ahead in Wisconsin and New Hampshire. I saw Gov. Richardson on Hannity yesterday, he was almost in tears to admit Bush won by 5K votes.

Do you know if the military vote is tabulated by state like the others? And where would I get that kind of info? Thanks.

I've been curious about something since the campaign ended. Do you know if anybody in the Reagan family or former administration has done anything to help GWB win re-election? As far as I know, I don't think so.Very disappointed.
