Jimmy Strikes Again
MIAMI (AFP) - Former US President Jimmy Carter called Yasser Arafat (news - web sites) "a powerful human symbol and forceful advocate" who united Palestinians in their pursuit of a homeland.
"Yasser Arafat's death marks the end of an era and will no doubt be painfully felt by Palestinians throughout the Middle East and elsewhere in the world," Carter said.
"He was the father of the modern Palestinian nationalist movement. A powerful human symbol and forceful advocate, Palestinians united behind him in their pursuit of a homeland," he said in a statement distributed by his Atlanta, Georgia-based Carter Center.
He said that while Arafat provided "indispensable leadership to a revolutionary movement" and played a key role in forging a peace agreement with Israel in 1993, he was excluded from negotiations in recent years.
"My hope is that an emerging Palestinian leadership can benefit from Arafat's experiences, be welcomed to the peace process by (Israeli) Prime Minister (Ariel) Sharon and (US) President (George W.) Bush, and be successful in helping to forge a Palestinian state living in harmony with their Israeli neighbors," Carter said.
Both Carter and Arafat are Nobel peace prize laureates.
Arafat, who died at a Paris hospital early Thursday, was to be buried at his West Bank headquarters after a military funeral ceremony in Cairo Friday.
Carter "will not be attending the funeral," said Jon Moor, a Carter Center spokesman.
...of terrorism and anti-semitism. We all greatly appreciate your terrorist-sympathising kudos, Jimmy.
How did the South produce such an idiot...he is arguably worse than the Great Pretender.
And we call Jimmy Carter the biggest pile of steaming runny dog sh!t that this country has ever had.....until the Clintons came along that is! Now thats 2 piles of steaming, runny dog sh!t to contend with!
You are quite right. Jimmah was in the Navy and used to be the skipper of a "nucular" sub. Golll...eee what a loser!
...and without 72 virgins. LOL. I think you're on to something.
Carter disgusts him. Arafat was a terrorist, an anti-American, a Jew-hater, and another version of Osama bin Ladin. It will be another good day when Carter dies.
It is quite clear that Jimmy Carter will defend Communist revolutionaries like Arafat to his dying breath.
Jimmy Carter...LOLOLOL!

I offer my condolences to Yasser Arafat's family, his partners in the PLO and to the Palestinian people who are grieving the passing of the man who symbolized their hopes and aspirations for so long.
History will record that Yasser Arafat's greatest moment occurred on September 13, 1993, when he and Israel's Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin, shook hands on the White House lawn and signed the Oslo Accords which led to seven years of negotiation, progress and relative peace.
However others viewed him, the Palestinians saw him as the father of their nation. I regret that in 2000 he missed the opportunity to bring that nation into being and pray for the day when the dreams of the Palestinian people for a state and a better life will be realized in a just and lasting peace.

Sorry. Truth is truth, even if it comes in the form of a steamy pile of crap...like Arafat.
...only if you define humanity by our ah...waste products.
Carter is puke. He is worthless. Beyond thought. He is a tired, wornout, worthless old man.
Because he can and he LOVES these guys. Case in point - Castro. Can't wait to hear what the former joke-for-a-President of the United States has to say about that POS when HE dies. He'll probably send flowers. Maybe he's already sent them to Arafat, too. Who knows?
Worse, he is a disgrace to Christianity. 100 posted on 11/11/2004 12:38:50 AM EST by EternalHope
I'm proud to say I didn't vote for him, have never liked him, and sat crying in the middle of the night when it was announced that he had won election.
He's a vile, bitter little man.
Carter is a sleeze-ball.
IMO, Carter's statements were a whole lotta nothing.
Arafat was a "powerful symbol" but Carter did not elaborate as to what he was a powerful symbol of. Yes, Arafat was a "forceful advocate" but of what? Terror?
When you think about it, Carter did not say anything that was untrue, just so incomplete that his statements are really meaningless.
What you can say is that Carter (and others who are speaking of Arafat) should be condemned for not speaking of Arafat for who he really was. His wishy washy comments amount to a tacit approval of Arafat, his goals and methods.
Carter, you're an absolute idiot. This monster was a murderer and recruited children(!) as homocide bombers...you're both turds in my opinion.
