That habit of toleration is an integral part of Dutch identity. Van Gogh's death, like that of the politician Pim Fortuyn two years ago, echoed the assassination in 1584 of the Prince of Orange, William the Silent, who is still seen as a martyr not only to the Protestant cause, but also to that of freedom of conscience. The words of the historian Motley about William the Silent - "When he died, the little children cried in the streets" - could have been said yesterday of Theo van Gogh.

Rutgers University has a statue of William the Silent in a prominent place on it's College Avenue campus, dating back to when it was a private college, inscribed with those words.

Perhaps the "military coup's" were barracks bluster 'revolutions'.

Lots of Hurtigen Forest types on the net.

The Dutch people would be well within their rights to bulldoze every single mosque and Muslim "school" in the land, and deport every Muslim in-country. This is a VAN GOGH, dammit. Has anyone ever been to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam? It is magnificent. This is perhaps the most famous Dutch icon in history. Imagine the uproar if one of the Bush twins were brutally murdered (God forbid!) by a man in Muslim garb, with Muslim Jihadist notes stabbed into her with a knife? This nation would go apesh*t against Muslims. As well we should. they made a serious f-ing mistake with poor Mr Van Gogh, and God-willing they will pay a serious price.

One can only hope this is the start of a generational reversal of Islam in all of Europe.

"They foolishly let them into their cities. It is too late now."

Not necessarily, but they will have to be willing to turn Amsterdam into Fallujah in order to survive.

When the Dutch see the Rijksmuseum full of Rembrandts in flames set by "moderate Muslims protesting intolerance", then they will "get it" for real.

I don't think I'll wear a burka, thank you very much. I was born an American...and I shall die an American.

"When the Dutch see the Rijksmuseum full of Rembrandts in flames"

I visited the Rijksmuseum with my family this summer. It was impressive, but I liked the Mauritshuis in Den Haag better.

My wife is from Holland.

1. Die
2. Wear a burkha
3. Live free

I go with option #3, whatever it takes. Wake up, Islam, or die.

"That remains to be seen. Let's check back in a month and see if the Dutch even remember that this happened. More likely, they will turn their anger into more Bush hatred."

Or will have completely forgotten about it.

Not even the most tolerant people on earth can tolerate the Islamists.

It is not tolerance to permit a murderous ideology to take hold in your society. It is insanity.

weeelll, technically a facist would believe in ultra-nationalism, in an all-controlling government and a charismatic leader/führer/Duce.

that's why Franco wasn't really a fascist (though the falangist, a party that supported him were fascists), he was a military dictator.

the slamonuts are loonies, vermin, their cult is a civilisational disease that must be purged if humanity is to survive.

Samuel Huntingdon's Clash of Civilisations was wrong on ONE point -- Isllam is NOT a civilisation, it's a shambolic raping of Egyptian, Persian, Syrian, Indian, Western, Greek etc. civilisations.

You only have to look at the countries and civilisations affected by this disease and see what they once were -- Egypt, Persia, Syria, Anatolia, Pakistan (actually Mooslime conquered India) etc.

Islam is not a religion. It a political belief system based on hatred and murder, much like the Nazis.
