Well, look on the bright side. Chief Justice of the United State Supreme Court John Ashcroft has a nice ring to it.

Not likely, although I sure wouldn't mind. But Ashcroft had a serious health crisis last year and word is he wants to retire, or at least find something to do that won't be as demanding.

C'mon give it up. Ashcroft resigned for health reasons. We don't want Bush to put up someone who will
- Take lots of political capital to get confirmed.
- Not have that many years to serve even if his health recovers (JA is 63).
- Might easily die during the next term (just in case it's Hillary).
Hope for bright, young, strict constructivists and Chief Justice Thomas (or Scalia).

I'd rather have Rudi Guliani as Chief Justice. He's a real leader as well as a better attorney. But both Ashcroft and Guliani have the No. 1 qualification - no prior federal judicial experience. I distrust the whole federal bench. We need some real people with proven real world ability there. The Supremes in particular have lost it - they have problems figuring out the real world effects of their decisions even in technical legal matters.

John Ashcroft would be an excellent SC Justice. I hope that whatever he does he is more visible and is more powerful than before.
His steadfastness has kept this nation safe for 4 years in the face of creepy rats like Shcumer, islamists, and assorted other traitorous demorats.
