Ashcroft was certainly a lightning rod of controversy for the Bush Administration- mostly because he's tough and it goes with the territory of bein AG. Many are talking about Rudy Giuliani replacing him. That's about as big a contrast as one gets in the GOP.

They said Ashcrofts's resignation letter was dated Nov. 2nd. There had been reports that the strain of the job had affected his health.
Personally I was kinda surprised about Evans though. Guess he wanted to get back to Midland and the sanity of that town.

Wonder what this imports for RKBA. The chances of getting better are slim. Rudy would be a disaster.

AG is a good spot for Rudy.

Don Evans should be in your header, too, though I see you noted it in the body.
Well.

My money is on M. Racicot for AG. Good choice but I hope not. I want Racicot running for President in '08.

Dear God NO! Think of how much money it will cost to cover all statues in America that bare breasts with curtains!

Rudy is pro-abortion and anti-RKBA.
I don't want him as AG. I'd rather see him replace Ridge.

Yeah, I thought I had heard that it is just a formality, but if it is truly meant, the President accepts the resignation.

I had heard Ashcroft wanted to leave (he was evidently rethinking priorities after his health issues).
But I really believe that the reason we have not been attacked again by AQ is in large part because of John Ashcroft.
I think he has done things behind the scenes to thward numerous attacks, none of which we'll ever hear about.
