Gov. Bush Says He's Really, Really Not Running For President

POSTED: 11:10 am EST November 9, 2004

Read his lips. Gov. Jeb Bush really, really isn't interested in succeeding his brother in the White House or running for the U.S. Senate in 2006.

Jeb BushHe's not kidding. So stop asking. At least until 2008.

Bush reiterated Tuesday that he's not going to run for the Senate when Florida has a seat up in '06, has no designs on the 2008 presidential race and he's getting tired of the question.

  So the natural follow-up question?

"Might you change your mind?" asked a reporter.

"No!" the exasperated governor responded as he entered a state Cabinet meeting Tuesday morning. "Why am I not believable on this subject? This is driving me nuts."

But before making that clear, he dodged a question on whether he might "eventually" run for president.

"Eventually, what's that?" Bush asked after a sigh and before launching into his oft-repeated pledge to finish his second four-year term as governor, which ends in January 2007.

"I'm not running for the United States Senate in 2006 and I'm not running for president in 2008."

He never got back to the question about "eventually."

The 22nd Amendment doesn't; the 12th does.

=====

Amendment XII, Section 2:

[2] The person having the greatest number of votes as Vice-President shall be the Vice-President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have a majority, then from the two highest numbers on the list the Senate shall choose the Vice-President; a quorum for the purpose shall consist of two-thirds of the whole number of Senators, and a majority of the whole number shall be necessary to a choice. But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.

(emphasis added)

I am in complete agreement.

When I say "wait and see who Bush 'annoints'" I am not implying that is how we should all go. We are not sheep. All I am saying is that Dubya holds the power cards right now in the Republican party, and so whomever he chooses will be "a player."

But that "player" will not yet be "selected" as our candidate. That is still up to us to do.

And if Dubya continues to grow the government, I could easily see us going with someone outside his choosing.

Cut out the middle man and run in 2008! I am willing to bet that if Hitlery runs, and she will, the entire Bush family, as well as many prominent Republicans will plead the case that Jeb must run- run for the sake of saving our Republic.

Now I ask, would that not be a splendid example of conservative compassion being applied?

heh heh. Speaking of compassion, if brother Jeb had any compassion for his older sibling, he would declare his candidacy forthwith! That would free up our faux press to spend the next four years digging up dirt,er, perusing Jeb's background. Thereby leaving "W" with an open field.

On second thought, if Jeb has designs on the office(and he should), he might be better served keeping it under his hat. JMO, but if "W" has a good second term, "Four More Years" would have a nice ring to it, no?

Yeah, but, HE NEVER ADDRESSES 2012, when he will be sixty years old. A young sixty, I might add if he watches his diet and exercise.

He's waiting till 2012 or 1016 if he decided to run. He knows a dynasty won't help him.

"...why not just encourage the rumor he is planning to run. Float it around about ad nauseum."

Just heard some Lib'ral on Hannity in a fit 'cuz he believes since Dubyuh was "selected not elected," he's gonna be able to run again in '08, to which Hannity said that Dubyuh won't run again but his brother might...LOL!! Thought the Lib'ral was gonna have a cow.

We don't need a monarchy in this country.

The Kennedy political dynasty is enough.

Why? Give me a REAL reason. If there is more than one person in a family who can do the job, what's the problem.

Political talent runs in families. Good values run in families. Moral clarity runs in families. Common sense (can) run in families. Intelligence runs in families. Good health runs in families.

What is the problem? Why is "new" blood necessarily "better" blood?

This question is for any of you that think Jeb would be a bad idea, for whatever reason.

I'd like to hear the justification for your opinions.

I surmise that in addition to political reasons, Jeb has financial and personal motives that he prefers not to discuss. With a few years' work in the private sector, Jeb can become quite wealthy, and he has suffered family problems that being in or running for office makes worse. The paradox of being a financially responsible, family values type in politics is that being in politics is a hardship on your assets and on your family.

So what are you trying to say, Jebbie? You're running for CONGRESS in 06, not Senate? Heh heh.

Well, there's one Gov. Bush the Dems. don't have to worry about for now, I think they had their hands full with the former Gov. Bush, the one from Texas.

That's exactly what O'Reilly said, to dynastic, First the Father, then the Son, but no one would vote for this Son for that very reason.

There's plenty of things of substance that Bush could drive the left nuts, right now....starting with:
Social in-Security reform, Medical savings accounts, tort reform, income tax reform- (or better yet; the Fair Tax) etc, etc. I'm more interested in seeing results....than I am in seeing the Republican party win elections, merely to drive the left nuts.

NOW....at the risk of sounding impatient;
we have a Republican controlled Senate, Congress, AND the White House. If these guys can't get a whole bunch of reforms, and I mean serious reforms, then I don't give a damn who they want to put up (as a trial ballon) in 2008.

And let's see some conservative Supreme Court Justices!!!

Yes, print them up immediately, they will be foaming at the mouth by 2008, after seeing them for the next few years. I love it. Brilliant!
