Is anyone else as sick as I am of the one-for-one substitution of the word "Hoilday" for "Christmas," as in Holiday Party, Holiday Shopping, Holiday Season, the Baby's First "Holiday." Christmas is a federal holiday just like Veterans' Day or Thanksgiving. Why shouldn't we mention it?
Take the pledge: refuse to use the word "Holiday" when "Christmas" is correct. To your neighbors and fellow employees say MERRY CHRISTMAS, never Happy Holidays, and if they object simply tell them you are wishing them happiness on the upcoming federal holiday. If they object further, ask them if they'll be going to work on December 25th.
Yeah but it is Christmas. It is a national holiday.
Let me try this analogy on you. In India Christians are about two percent of the population (the same percentage that Jews constitute of the U.S. population).
I have no idea what holidays or holy days the Indians celebrate, but suppose the birthday of Mohandas Gandhi was on 20 December, and a legal Indian holiday. And let's suppose Indians celebrate that day fervently with parties, events, songs, cultural events. Then suppose the two-percent Christian minority refused to use the words "Happy Gandhi Day," but instead substituted "Happy Holidays" (combining Christmas Day (only five days later) with the holiday celebrated by the other 98% of the people). Don't you think the Indians might be a little upset? Don't you think there might be resentment when Gandhi parties were changed to Holiday parties, when pageants and civic events were not allowed to utter the word Gandhi? Don't you get it?
Like it or not, Christians predominate in the U.S., and they will resist and increasingly resent tiny minorities from trying to make them alter their culture.
I hate the Christmas season stamp options! Ugly Christmas stamps, disgusting Kwanzaa stamps, or Madonna with child stamps, and I'm not Catholic so won't buy that one. Usually end up with generic non-Christmas stamps.
You're assuming that Christmas is celebrating by 98% of all people in this Country. I think you're wrong. But I truly, don't care. Like I said, I love Christmas. I love everything about Christmas and I don't understand why other religions make such a fuss about it.
OK, 85-90%. It's still a lot, and the wishes of this overwhelming majority ought not to be dictated to by the other 10-15%.
Sure the Constitution says: The Congress shall make no law regarding the establishment of a religion..." but what does that have to do with the decision of the XYZ Company to have a Holiday party instead of a Christmas party? "Christmas" morphed to "Holiday" because of active, relentless pressure from the 10-15% who are not content for the majority to let their culture imbue society.
“Christmas” or “Holy days” – not much difference, as most people don’t really celebrate a Christ Mass.
..I stopped going to 'holiday' parades or 'holiday' tree lighting events....piffle!

I'm not even a christian and I use christmas instead of the tepid 'holiday.'

We don't wish each a other a "Happy Yom Kippur". And for holiday greetings, we usually say, "Chag Sameach" which means Happy Holiday. Unless it's Rosh Hashanah, then there is a longer greeting.
I used to work at a law firm that had a holiday party. We exchanged presents, drank, ate, etc. No one cared what the thing was called. It was a day to party on company time.
Because XYZ Company has surrendered to those who want to diminish a culture that cherishes Christmas. The only official holiday in December is Christmas. What is the problem with celebrating IT?
No one surrendered anything. Must you see dragons around every corner? They have meds for paranoia, you know.
Are you one of those people that is going to get all bent and start 20 vanity threads when you see that the President's Annual card says Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas (even though it goes to non-Christmas celebrating Bush supporters as well)? This is my pet peeve to end all pet peeves.
I refuse to buy Christmas presents at a store that only sells "holiday" presents.
I always ask (loudly): "Which holiday? Flag Day? Bastille Day? maybe they are selling Memorial Day presents."
The "holiday" has a name.
I despise the "X-mas" abbreviation because it is a linguistic corruption.
Let's see. Chanukah and Christmas are both in December. So, you insist on melding the party held that month into a "Holiday Party."
Labor Day and Rosh Hashanah are both in September. Have you attended "Holiday Parties" in that month too? Or were there parties/picnics entitled: "Labor Day," and were there parties entitled "Rosh Hashanah."
There are ten federal holidays on the Calendar, and Christmas is the only one that PC-revisionists refuse to call by its proper name.
