List of possible candidates:
Bill Frist
Rick Santorum
George Allen
Chuck Hagel
John McCain
Sam Brownback
George Pataki
Rudy Giuliani
Mark Sandford
Bill Owens
Mitt Romney
Arlen Specter...he's quite popular these days! <sarc
I put him in the list because he will run likely. If you read my comments, you will know that I'm not a big fan of Frist as candidate.
I disgree, but there are a lot of old-line democrats who feel the same way. Hillary is unelectable as president, IMO.
Taft is finished in Ohio...
Try 2-time Ohio Gov and Senator George Voinovich instead.
ok - I'm going to add a couple of Minnesota names:
Senator Norm Coleman (R) - former Democrat, staunchly pro-life, Jewish, former mayor of St. Paul, barely lost Governor seat, moderate on environment (actually, I think he would make a perfect VP candidate and really uptick the odds of winning MN, WI, and keep IA)
Governor Tim Pawlenty - not a RINO; again - may start as a Presidential candidate, but end up on the short list of VPs
The best that could happen for Hitlery is a Dole-like patronage nomination, an unenthusiastic "thanks for your fundraising".
And she'd run a boring, uninspired Dole-like campaign, a guaranteed loser at best.
In addition to being a Governor (not a Senator), the nominee needs to be telegenic and convey an optimistic message. Who best fits this requirement?
How so?
Only he doesn't run his mouth like Trent. Both are just too soft.
Not McCain. Too much cancer and other health issues.
"Ergo, if he is nominated, he will lose."
Correct: Ergo, if he is nominated, WE will lose.
Anyway with a conservative Pres. candidate, Giuliani could be in a ticket.
My theory, since early this year, is that HRC won't run for re-election in the Senate. She will state that she needs the time to focus on the task at hand (2008).
The reason for this is that if she gets smokes by Rudy in NY (and she will), there is no way that she'll be able to carry the ticket for the Dems.
BTW, if JFK would have won, HRC's political career would have been over ... she loses NY in 2006. See, my glass is always half full!!!
I think you may see a Mccain - Pataki ticket. I would like to see Owen (CO) but am not sure if a past marriage issue would pose a problem or not.
God Bless Our Troops and God Bless America
Michael Steele Lt. Gov. of Maryland. Keynote speaker at the 2004 RNC.
We should run our best candidate because the drumbeat for Hillary will be unbelievable. Our best candidate by far is Jeb Bush - forget the dynasty stuff for a second.
He is the most popular Governor in the country in the largest swing state. He is a strong Catholic and speaks fluent Spanish. He just delivered Florida to the President in a big way.
If his name was Jeb Smith, we would not be talking about anyone else.

I heard a conspiracy theory that Hillary had JFK Jr. killed so he wouldn't win NY Senator. I don't know if I believe it, but there have been MANY mysterious plane crashes that killed Clinton enemies.....
The names of Bill and Hillary comes to my mind. The public didn't seem to care about their marriage.
NO, please God NO!!!! Not Sundquist!!!! OK, now I feel better. Scared me for a minute. Whew!
I personally like Rudy but I don't think the South is ready for a liberal New Yorker, Republican or not. We have the same perceptions about New York (switch blade toting, gun grabbing, gay loving, etc.) that they have about us (gun toting, cousin marrying, racists, etc), deserved or not. An ultra-conservative candidate from New York might have a chance but I don't think Rudy is it.
