Perhaps I'm being a bit presumptuous in posting this so soon after the election. Then again, it's never too early to begin the political postmortems.
Especially when we have a genuinely solid candidate for the twelth district of New York who will be running once again for the same seat, which is currently held by the underwhelming Nydia Velasquez.
I was thinking of turning this thread into sort of a travelogue-in fact, "Cacique" already has a series of neat digital photos that he captured while we were on the campaign trail-detailing the myriad adventures, debates and amazing encounters that I've had with so many wonderful people as I've traversed three different boroughs over these past couple of months.
But instead of doing that, I'd just like to extend my hand in gratitude to Paul (Parodrig) and all of the people who've helped him over the course of this campaign.
Even though we weren't successful in wresting this chunk of the House of Representatives from enemy hands, Paul still made a more than respectable showing, which we can all take some small measure of pride in.
His campaign is something that the currently anemic NY GOP would do well to emulate, though I doubt that will happen anytime soon.
These people need a wake-up call!
WOW - funny and a congressman to boot!
"Where does the man find the time?!"
I extend my congratulations to Paul Rodriguez as well. 15% of the vote is not much, but it's 3 times what the last guy got. Congrats and best of luck to you.
The point is, we made a stand!
Even if this a majority Democratic constituency, it doesn't belong to the wild-eyed radicals that imposed the likes of Nydia Velasquez onto a majority of unwilling voters.
This is a district that was gerrymandered to elect someone who obviously isn't qualified for the job.
Unfortunately, we had neither the time nor the resources to press this issue during the course of the campaign.
I'm not following this at all. Is Paul Rodriguez a Republican? And did he just run for public office?
To both questions.
BTTT
Did he really run for congress as a Republican?
http://www.paulrodriguez.com/about.htm
Here's his website, and it doesn't mention anything about it.
But it DOES mention this:
"Paul has performed with the USO in the Middle East three years in a row (including three visits to Iraq)."
He's one of my favorite stand-up comics.
Wait a second. This guy is talking about New York, and Paul Rodriguez the comedian lives in California.
He's talking about somebody different.
BTTT!
Actually, he has a great name for this district.
I just wish that more people in the twelfth were aware of it.
More power to ya!
I appreciate it.
Paul was a great candidate. Its difficult, however, to run for office when you have a real job (like Paul) against an otherwise unemployable parasite like Nydia.
Stop making fun of people who are confused! :D
But I think the situation cries out for a gratuitous blond joke.
Undecided Ula:
C'mon, don't make fun of me. It's hard making a choice in this whole presidential thingie. It's like that Rueben Studard-Clay Aiken competition. I mean...HOW DO YOU DECIDE?!!
(Brushes back blond hair.)
HEY! What happened to my scrunchie?
(Baffled, she stares into space.)
