Disillusioned Americans eye New Zealand's alternative bush
Fri Nov 5,10:44 PM ET U.S. National - AFP
WELLINGTON (AFP) - Enquiries from Americans wanting to move to New Zealand have skyrocketed since George W. Bush was reelected president of the United States. The Immigration Service website had 10,300 hits from the United States the day after the election, compared to the daily norm of 2,500. Thousands of North Americans have migrated to New Zealand in recent years -- attracted by the country's small population, clean, green image of bush-clad mountains, and isolation from world trouble spots -- but the number now looks set to soar. Phones at the Immigration Service offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Portland have been ringing constantly since the vote outcome, Marketing Manager Don Badman told the Dominion Post newspaper on Saturday. There have been up to 300 telephone calls and emails a day compared to six-to-eight calls a day before the election. "It's exploded. It really started picking up from 11:00pm the night of the election," he said. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Americans were also looking to Australia and Canada as well as New Zealand following the election.

Australia reelected Howard's conservative government. You'd think stupid lefties would've eliminated this country from their possible places to "escape" to.

news for the Dems: NZ does not want you. You have no necessary skills, you whine and pollute too much, and you will scare the sheep.

No Wisconsin is almost one of Bush country, Minnesota and PA are the problems. Anyway if we have candidates like Specter-Spector (or Keyes in IL), we deserve to lose. I think we've understood the lesson.

Half the world lives on less than $1 per day, says the UN.
CORRECT STATEMENT IS: Because of the lack of capitalism and free markets half the world lives on less than $1 per day.

It's ok aless, just remember that enquiries don't necessarily translate into residency. Something along the lines of the
Zimbabwean situation would have to happen first before residency is fast tracked.

Hey! us Kiwis are not from Oz.
Anyway, there are more than enough Liberals in NZ a it is: both major parties are Liberal: Labour Party radical liberal; National Party - more like Clinton.
Nothing here that even matches the open politics of the USA - I am jealous.
