Just lately (noticeably since the US election result) there seems to be an awful lot of anti-British sentiment on here (there always was a little but I put that down to a handful of xenophobic kiddies)
What I would like to know is do most Freepers now share the low opinion that some (many) on here seem to have of our nation or is it just a small (but very vocal) minority of morons?
I've enjoyed this forum (for the relatively short time that I've contributed) and have always liked Americans in general, but I now find myself reconsidering my thoughts on both.
If we Brits are not liked or wanted around here, I think I'll probably discontinue my involvement.
I like Brit but he has to answer for his kissy-butt with Susan Estrich as she tried to dance around the facts, reporting talking points from the Kerry campaign as serious unbiased analysis after it looked like Ohio was lost.
Brit, you messed up big time. Come off the fence a little. I know you had a national audience (Fox affilaites were carrying Brit and gang)..
hehe...sorry to hijack the thread...
I like the Brits. I have chosen England as my next vacation destination because of Blaiir's support for the US and the prez. FReegards.
Anglophile checking in.
Heck, if you guys wanted to join a real union, we'd give you four Senators. A Senator is more lordly than any British Lord- you'll love having Senators. Gosh, they're a sight to see, when us lowly types are privileged enough to see one. When they're not in jail of course.
I too haven't seen any Brit bashing. The US has no greater allie than the Brits!
We don't like your food, your accents and your bulldogs! Any questions?
Most FReepers are glad that the British have largely stood with us, contrary to the wishes of the new Central Powers.
We love Churchill and Thatcher, heck most of us are Python fans. But there certainly is a segment of modern British society that is pretty loony, especially their press. I suspect like here, most Brits are pretty conservative, once you get outside of London and Liverpool.
I limit my "Brit-Bashing" to the Guardian, mostly.
I believe it's a pent-up reaction to years of America-bashing from the British lefties and Europe in general. And it's not so much bashing the British citizenry as your left-dominated government and media.
WE LOVE THE UK.
We just HAT the Guardian and the mirror.
I've heard some comments that would scramble your teeth and turn them yellow.
Oh, I see you've heard them too.
Come on, we kid because we love.
You Brits are good people. Stick around.
That being said, one has only to read the Beeb's "Have Your Say" columns to see that many in UK seem to be somewhat leftist nowadays.
Please stick around !
Communist papers like The Guardian kinda irritated alot of people on both sides of the pond or so the rumble I heard says.
(Filed in my head as rumor and hearsay unless I can find someone to confirm your side of the pond's irritation at the Guardian.)
Cheers, thanks for being with us in Afghanistan and Iraq.
You are wanted here, dear. The Guardian has made things a bit nippy, and it sometimes gets quite unkind. You might ping MadIvan - he's a Brit - and he can tell you firsthand that many do not know that we have a strong British and Canadian Contingient on FreeRepublic. I think people would be less likely to be insulting if they knew a British or Canadian friend was actually listening to their posts.
If you think THIS is tough, try being of French extraction here. I haven't even come out yet...
Oops.
Try reading your own press for a while.
Even the worst US press can't compare to what we see in the way of personal attacks in the British press. They consistantly claim this president (who has a higher IQ than Kerry, and an MBA) is an idiot.
Where's the counter balance? Where's the fairness?
A bit Cheeky, that, wouldn't you say BullDog?
