COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An error with an electronic voting system gave President Bush 3,893 extra votes in suburban Columbus, elections officials said.
Franklin County's unofficial results had Bush receiving 4,258 votes to Democrat John Kerry's 260 votes in a precinct in Gahanna. Records show only 638 voters cast ballots in that precinct.
Bush actually received 365 votes in the precinct, Matthew Damschroder, director of the Franklin County Board of Elections, told The Columbus Dispatch.
State and county election officials did not immediately respond to requests by The Associated Press for more details about the voting system and its vendor, and whether the error, if repeated elsewhere in Ohio, could have affected the outcome.

Think I'll just sit back and watch all the trolls join in on this thread. LOL!
Yeah, because we should trust the press after what they attempted to do to the Republican campaign. It just goes to show what ego's Hollywood liberals and the media have when they think that with all of their efforts combined they can actually influence the American people.....well, we spoke and it goes to show how much more influence one man has over all of these elitists, and that man's name is George dubya!!!!
Does Halliburton make parts for those machines, by any chance? :-)
Voter fraud should have the death penalty.
I know EXACTLY what happened!! Someone in the RAT Party accidentally put the 4,000 votes for Bush instead of Kerry and they JUST NOW found their mistake! WHOOPS!!
Just fyi - the suburb's name is pronounced GaHANNA, like Jack Hanna.
You should check out the thread on the DU, they are going absolutely "nuts" over this....
already saw it....that's ok, the more pissed they are, the more they will influence the Democratic Party and keep stereing them into icebergs.
I expect them to fabricate a Halliburton/Enron/Wolfowitz conspiracy that leads them to call for impeaching Bush.
Each and every liberal will now think (they already did but now they'll "KNOW") that the election was stolen, just like it was in 2000. Soon, they will have to turn to violence or possibly the UN to take the country back
</sarcasm> (only not to them)
this apparently is true and it appears to be an error of the system and these types of errors usually go both ways. this is known as "noise". unfortunately, we will not hear about the lost bush votes caused by noise, nor will we hear about the outright voter fraud that occured in detroit at cobo hall, where ballots were tossed and redone under the noses of observers.
It's hit the blogs.

I think it's much ado about nothing though. But I will feel better when it's official in OH.
Besides, if it was serious threat to Bush we would be hearing about it. Also with the Provisional Balloting, majority of those Ballots tend to be Garbage.
County totals versus precinct totals? Are they the same place?
Your post illustrates the critical situation confronting America and her elections.
We must devise a way to reduce vote fraud to the minimum possible. It is absolutely necessary before the criminals vote themselves into irreversible control of government. We must stop vote fraud before the election, not try to figure which votes to count on election day.
I had always hoped to limit the amount of information on citizens held by government, but I don't know how to stop fraud without having the verifiable identity of every eligible voter held by the government to stop fraud and impostors.
Bringing said frauds to justice is another facet. Arrests at the polls are probably not a good idea. Using provisional ballots as evidence might work, but then we can't get rid of provisional ballots, which would probably stop a lot of fraud.
Any ideas?
Disregard my jump the gun post. Sorry.
This makes up for the votes found on the voting machines in Philth-adelphia BEFORE voting began...
The majority of provisionals in Ohio in 2000 were not garbage. The Secy of State's website says 86% of them were declared valid votes in Ohio then.
What helps Bush in this matter is
1) The lead is about 133K now, after this error.
2) The Absentees are apparently not in that number, and we may get an up bump in that number from them because many will be military.
3) The 155000 provisionals are NOT all from Cleveland. Only about 24K are. The rest are spread all over, more or less proportional to county size. They will probably split in favor of Kerry, but only slightly.
The current lead is about 2.5% for Bush and that's 133K. The auto recount threshold is *probably* (I don't know this for sure) 0.25%. That's 1/10th the current lead or 13K.
So Bush has to lose 120K to provisionals and absentees to hit the recount threshold. This is likely to require about a 90% split for Kerry.
I think our odds are extremely good on this, but it will be much better when official certification comes in.
