The article I read said the DST would hinge on Indiana moving to the central time zone.

The stations have adapted around the fact that in much of the country, summer is the only time when it is bearable to go out and do anything. So they have adapted their TV schedules to account for the fact that no one is watching anyway. That does nothing to change the fact that this is a nonproblem. The government has more important things to do than play "let's pretend" with the clocks.

Sure, I understand that, but in the winter when the sun goes down at 4:00 PM in some parts of the country, there are school kids walking home in the dark. Wouldn't it make more sense to have the extra hour of daylight then?

If you did this, then they would not have light for the 6:30 AM kids walking to high school. It doesn't matter, to me, a whole lot if in November it's dark at 5 when I leave work. It's mostly too cold for outdoor stuff anyway. But these days it is bright in the morning, which makes it easier to get up and go.

Where I live, the sun stays up till 9:00 PM in the summer. I could be just as happy if it only stayed up to 8:00 PM.

Hmmm. Then we could start playing with fireworks at 8:30 instead of 9:30 here. Maybe a one-day exception. ;-)

That would mean a 4:30 sunset in the winter, correct?

When I run for governor of Georgia, I will run on one issue. Split the diffence and then no more time changes ever. This spring, we should spring forward 1/2 hour and never spring forward or fall back again.

The government has more important things to do than play "let's pretend" with the clocks.

"The government" already standardizes the clocks and sets time zones. Before the railroads, "what time is it?" could lead to vastly different answers from town to town.

Let's see -- during the summer the counties bordering Cincinnati and Lou-A-Ville are on Eastern DAYLIGHT Time, the counties in northwest and southwest Indiana are on Central DAYLIGHT time, and the rest are on Eastern STANDARD time. I don't know of any other state that has three different time zones. Hoosiers don't have watches with times for cities around the world; they need watches that show time by county in their own state.

Daylight savings time is practiced in most of the United States and most countries in temperate climates that have long summer days and short winter days. Even Brazil has DST. But of course this is proof that Indiana is sane and everyone else is crazy. Just like Generalissimo Roberto Knighto was considered nuts everywhere but Bloomington until they finally had to run him out of town before someone got choked to death.

At least your river towns are filthy rich from Casino gambling. That's something, I guess.

I actually think Indiana and Arizona are the only states that are sane on this issue. Everyone else is taking Ben Franklin's joke literally.

Dark during rush hour in the morning or dark during rush hour at night. What's the difference?

As for Bobby Knight, I thought he was hilarious. But I don't have an opinion, really. And Casino gambling is fine by me if it cuts everyones' taxes.

Look at it this way RR. What would it be like if we never rolled the clocks back in the fall and just left it that way all year.We actually did this in the Seventies as part of the War on Energy, along with 55 MPH Speed Limits and freezing our butts off in public buildings. Problem is, in the western portion of time zones it's pitch dark when kids have to go to school.

Presumably, you are trying to wake up and be alert on the way to work, and are getting into relaxation mode on the way home.

Let's not presume too much shall we? Home life may not be the place that everyone relaxes! Lol.

Move the clocks forward by 30 minutes next Spring and leave them there.

And be 30 minutes shifted from the rest of the world?!

Daniels needs to go after the blue laws instead. The beer always runs out on Sunday.
