The DaVinci Code, Critical Thinking And The State Of Education
County Press ^ | By James Bibza, Ph.D

History and critical thinking are inseparable for a good education. If read merely as fiction, The DaVinci Code would be an interesting mystery story. However, when the claim is made, both in the book and in the ABC documentary, "Jesus, Mary and DaVinci," that a historical core lies behind the story, then it demands our attention.

The DaVinci Code, with 6 million copies in print and a Time magazine cover, is a popularized version of what some radical theologians have been saying for some time now, as they have attempted to rewrite the early history of Christianity by relying on works such as the Gospel of Thomas, which has 114 sayings of Jesus, but no virgin birth, no cross or physical resurrection.

I picked up the DaVinci Code, read about 20 pages and thought "oh not another conspiracy theory". People who buy into this crap think

OJ is innocent

Haliburton rules the world

There was no Holocaust

Paul is Dead.

Elvis is alive.

Sigh....heretics come in so many forms......

Sadly, so many don't know the real thing, so they are unable to identify counterfeit.

"The strong assumption of every bit of early church evidence is that Jesus was single, not because it would have destroyed his deity, but because it would have gotten in the way of his primary mission, which was to reveal the Father and die for His sheep. "

Leaving very little time for "Honey-do" lists and driving the kids to ball practice, not to mention having to lift the lid. Further proof of the Wisdom of Jesus, if you ask me.

The Romanov Prophecy or Foucault's Pendulum are much better if you're into this type of thing.

called by my favorite emminent christian scholar, Mitch Packwa, the "DUH-Vinchi" code for it's embarrassingly long chain of innacuracies, misunderstandings of history, and outright lies passed along from a sea of bitter anti-catholic, literature over the years. Ideally suited for the "lady's book club" crowd, complete with lies concerning witch burning, etc. during the inquisition in England.

There never was an Inquisition in England.

Da Vinci Code was a real good... as long as you take it for what it is -- Fiction. It makes you think, it keeps you entertained, and its written well.

Some people take it to far as always.

Angels & Demons was better though. I cant wait for The Solomon Key due out sometime next year...

I'm all for a good conspiracy story; keeping in mind that it's FICTION!

It can only be taken as fiction - there are several documented histrical errors in the book.

The book is fiction...enjoyable.. but pure fiction... anyone who has any doubt...google da vinci code and read the scholarly rebuttals...

"Foucault's Pendulum"

Indeed - far superior to the beach read that is "DaVinci Code".

It's only a book and it comes in the fiction section. Pretty exciting book at that.

There may not have been an inquisition, but there were certainly lots of burnings during the Reformation years as Henry VII led the English Church into Protestantism, Mary I led it back to Catholcism, and Elizabeth I brought it back to Protestantism. Lots of heads rolled and lots of bodies burned duruing those tumultuous years.

"Inquisition" was a wrong word choice.

The problem, friends, is that too many believe that it's not fiction. I know several people that told me that it totally changed their view of Christianity. I know that the book is pure garbage, but there are way too many that accept it as fact.

Don't forget that there are plenty of people who think The Matrix is REAL, rather than the Bible.
