President Bush won the White House because he understands it's hip to be square.
Bush knows what he stands for and connects with mainstream Americans across a cultural divide that Democrat John Kerry just can't reach.
The president won re-election far from the fancy Manhattan dinner tables where pampered liberals love to ridicule him as a dummy, out in rural and exurban areas where Americans still think it's right to talk about loving God and country.
He won in places where campaigning with Red Sox World Series hero Curt Schilling trumps Bruce Springsteen or Jon Bon Jovi any time, and Whoopi Goldberg was never seen as funny, even before her obscene anti-Bush rant at a Kerry cash bash.
He won in tiny towns where no one dreams of dining with Bush-hating billionaire George Soros, you don't need to borrow a gun to go goose hunting, and opposing gay marriage is seen as standing up for traditional values.
"Most people in America don't windsurf and don't snowboard. Kerry's problem wasn't about his thoughts or issues as much as it was his inability to connect," said Democratic strategist David Doak.
"Democrats get in trouble with candidates from the liberal elite, of noblesse oblige, who talk about, 'Oh gee, I'm going to help the poor people,' " Doak added.
As he sees it, the Democratic Party is a mix of working people and often-wealthy liberals. But recently with the notable exception of Bill Clinton the party has chosen nominees who reflect an elite, out-of-touch mentality.
"Bill Clinton could go both ways. He was comfortable in trailer parks as well as Park Avenue. But he was a unique figure," Doak said. "We Democrats have got to find a way to reconnect with rural voters and more conservative voters."

They don't put up them road signs that say "Don't Mess With Texas" fer nuttin'.
Dog house for Kerry sounds about right.
AND we own the WH and all the Capitol Hill real estate for a long, long time.........with no mortgage due.
That's a pretty dated conception. The Democratic Party is a predator-parasite alliance. Working people are their targets. Working people, therefore, continue to flee the 'rats.
If being morally and ethically decent is being square, count me in as a square peg. I've always been a square peg. Comes from a good upbringing in a household built on a foundation of strong and decent morals.
"We Democrats have got to find a way to reconnect with rural voters and more conservative voters."
Conservative voters? You guys are L-I-B-E-R-A-L-S!
It'll certainly be the first house he's lived in that he can truly call his own.
Soros may well have understood regular folk when on the run from the Nazis. But now that he funds Modern Nazis of his own creation, one might say he drifted out of touch.
We gotta get that on a tee shirt.
The fact that he windsurfed and snowboarded was more comical than anything else. Kerry just looked like a horses ass doing it, and windsurfing and snowboarding had nothing to do with him losing like he did. Kerry lost because he didn't sell himself hard enough. He spent most of his time on the campaign trail painting a picture of doom and gloom and voters were left wondering "Huh?" and thinking what planet is Kerry on while touting a resume that spelled disaster for a country heaped in a war for survival.
Calling them idiots isn't going to win any converts.
Send me one if you do.:)
bill clinton was more than just comfortable in trailer parks. he was "making himself at home"
you might say he brought a little trailer park everywhere he went, and still does.
we should all be grateful for clinton's appearances with kerry which imho cost many votes in the final few weeks.
thanks again prez bill,
papa joe
I was thrilled to see Clinton back in the political arena, it spelled absolute defeat for Kerry with Bubba at his side. Every state Clinton stumped in, Kerry lost. Clinton tipped the few remaining toss up states toward Bush, especially FL and NM.
I live in the People's Republic of Mahoning County in Ohio and now have to listen to the whining and complaining from my Demorat acquaintances. They still spout the anti-Bush rhetoric, the mantra of "They stole the election of 2000 in Florida" and other hatefull gibberish.
I sit silently and relish the thought that they still don't get it.WE WON!!

That's right. Most Americans dont think. Dont have values, we just are overwhelmed by trendy sports. NOT!
Kerry and the missus have dropped out of sight. Nobody seems to know where they've gone. Hmmm. A little wound licking going on and maybe some plate throwing? Lots and lots of booze and self pity. Wonder if Kerry's cell phone's been taken away from him.
Poor John Kerry. He needs comforting. We should all mail him a slice of hearty French cheese and a glass of fine French wine. May I recommend, for the former, a Machecoulais or Tomme de Savoie, or the deliciously gooey Epoisses de Bourgogne (it may be a bit smelly to mail but it's worth it). For the wine, a Doudet Naudin Meursault au Village is always welcome, or the elegant Poilly Fuisse. Please mark your package "This Side Up" so the glass doesn't spill.
A selection from the Rothschild Vineyards might be appropriate seeing that Terayza is almost as rich as they are.
I hear Newsweek is gonna do a major dump on Terayza....and her hypochondriaism (read addiction to pain-killers).
