Coulter: One last flip-flop
TownHall.com ^ | November 4, 2004 | Ann Coulter

Of course, we could have done it a lot earlier on election night but for "Boy Genius" Karl Rove. It's absurd that the election was as close as it was. If Rove is "the architect" – as Bush called him in his acceptance speech – then he is the architect of high TV ratings, not a Republican victory.

I don't think Rove did a bad job. But I do think he seriously underestimates the important of the pro-life voters and the religious voters. Maybe after this election it will be clearer to him.

Ann may have some good points. But....

We should honor Ronald Reagan and his famous 11th commandment.

More than anything else, Kerry lost because of Michael Moore and the other hateful lefties. The guy standing behind me in line to vote was motivated from hatred of Michael Moore. He couldn't stop talking about him the whole time.

Maybe Ann feels a bit used. Bush effectively used the Swifties and people like Ann to be his attack forces. While he stayed "likable" to make the hatred sent his way non-believable by the average voter.

Had he done anything untoward, the hatred sent his way would have stuck. But it never did.

Rove is a genius.

Why I prefer Laura Ingram over Coulter who I find... can't quite figure out what I find off about her but there is something odd.
Laura does a great job and I would never discount her import politically/culturally, but I must say that Miss Ann is kinder, classier, generous, and humble.

The second picture in 138 looks about right.

She's getting more interested in being "witty" than in substance.

I have to disagree when she suggests that GWB should have engaged his opponent on such fields as gay marriage. If Rove advised him against it, Rove was right. There are certain issues on which it would have been all too easy to distort the President's position. If he had, for example, associated himself with the swift vets, or endorsed them outright, the media would have crucified him. It is not enough to be right, you have to survive too. It would have been morally correct to endorse the swifties, but political suicide. Same with gay marriage. Make that a major issue in the campaign and you start the Mother of all mud fights. Why give the media such an opportunity? Instead, GWB downplayed the issue and tried to keep the debate on a high plane. Now he's got himself 4 more years. He's a leader, not an angel.

Have you noticed how much she has aged in the last two years?
Yeah... she looks almost 30!

The whole point she is making is to quit thinking Republicans have to move to the so called center to win. She could have said it more diplomatically but she is right and diplomatic has never been her strong suit. That is what I like about her.

Lots of people are thinking Juliani for 2008. I like Juliani. But I am strongly against him for the Republican Nomination. This election has proved we don't need a so called centrist.

This is a big win but the fight is not over. Its not time to rest on our laurels here. It's time to step it up and use this momentum to change this country and wrest it from the liberal elite, bring down the old media, and move truly into the 21 first century with maximum liberty, smaller government tempered by sound law and leadership!

This is our chance to make liberalism a hiss and byword in our history!.

"Same with gay marriage. Make that a major issue in the campaign and you start the Mother of all mud fights."

Gay marriage lost in Oregon! It lost in 10 other states. It lost in Oregon. That one needs repeating.

If the GOP runs from social conservatives, some day we won't be there to save them.

Did Coulter explain how SHE would have obtained another five million votes for Bush or whatever? Coulter has a lot of opinions, often not backed up with facts.

If you're looking to dispute someone who claims that Karl Rove created this re-election from the dust, I'm not the man. I'm saying, as I've said... that for once there was a real way presented to Christians to bring them into the actual campaign activities that are effective.

It's called the "ground game" of a campaign. Most often, prior to this year, Christians were just distributing voter guides to each other, at best, and that was a shame.

Ann's ego needs to be in the spotlight.
What a pathetic comment.

Think we'd be better off if she was in the shadows, babe? Think it's easy to go out there and be a voice for everything the media-PTBs despise?

Maybe she should stop writing bestsellers just in case when she's on TV promoting our causes no one thinks it was her ego that drove her there.

Your other point is dead wrong. The celebration is far from over, and won't be until after the inauguration!

OK, you won me over on that one! Jubilantly yours...

Maybe she's dating a lib and he called her "closed minded" and so she wants to show she can be critical of her own side.

Coulter is right. If, in fact, it was Rove who was calling the shots. I think the President makes his own decisions.

The topic of this thread is whether Rove is overrated. Ms. Coulter submits that he is and I happen to agree. This is important because if his moderation is taken seriously, it squanders our victory.

As I see it, Rove was in the right place at the right time. We are in a war. The Democrats decided that was the best time to run Dukakis' lieutenant governor. At the same time, the Courts decided to constitutionalize sodomy and being legalizing gay marriage. Did I mention the war?

Given all that, Bush won by a single state when running against the Senate's number One and Four liberals. That is not the performance of "genius."
