Kidnap videotape shows Hassan collapsing in terror
Times Online ^ | November 04, 2004 | Daniel McGrory

THE family of the Iraq hostage Margaret Hassan fear that she cannot stand more torment from her captors after they were told that she is seen on video collapsing unconscious to the ground as she begs for her life. Her sisters and brother could not bear to watch the film, but were given a graphic description of Mrs Hassan’s obvious distress as she faints while being taunted by a masked man.

A hooded figure is seen throwing a bucket of water over her as she lays sprawled on the floor. The 59-year-old Irish-born aid worker then struggles to her feet, soaking wet and shaking. Then her captor reportedly taunts Mrs Hassan while she starts to cry and buries her head in her hands.

Relatives were told of her mistreatment just before they made their first public plea for her release in Dublin on Tuesday. Her kidnappers have threatened that today they will hand her over to the terror group that beheaded Kenneth Bigley, the British hostage. The group, led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, has never been known to free a hostage.

Her employer, the charity CARE International, said that it was “profoundly distressed” at film of Mrs Hassan’s condition. The Arab broadcaster al-Jazeera said that it was sticking to its decision not to show the latest video of her in full for “humanitarian reasons”.

A network spokesman said: “She looks in a terrible state.”

Each time I read about someone being murdered, it just makes my resolve even more strong, we must rid the world of this scurge (Sp) on the earth. Let me at him?

She should have stayed in Dublin. Lie down with dogs, get up with fleas.

If there were a place worth then hell, I would send them there in a heart beat. I just cannot imagine a human being have this type of mind set.

Asked to comment upon said images, former presidential candidate John Kerry responded: "Wow. What a nuisance, huh...?"

Am I wrong, or, if she is murdered by her captors, will she be the first female hostage who has been killed? That would be a whole new precedent.

Maybe, this will show the "if we just are just nice to them, they will be nice to us" crowd that medieval thugs will kill anybody they can if it will help their cause.

She would have had to have had one hell of a crystal ball. She's been in Iraq for some 30 odd years now.

The murderous Jihadists are like the murderous Aztecs. They get their rocks off by tormenting, torturing and murdering their captives. Is this so difficult to conceive of?

Sorry, but I disagree. From the reports I've heard, she's an aid worker, and someone who's been helping the most vulnerable in Iraqi society for years.

I hope that there's a special place in hell reserved for the sort of things that capture, torture, and brutally murder decent people.

Mark

I feel terribly for her. She obviously is pretty naive about her place in that world and her current circumstance. But now she should not be like a cringing whipped dog, it just brings on more torture. These people fear and loathe women, Christians, Jews, Hindus, well, the list just goes on...

That is what "bugs" me about this too.

Why do they pick someone who has been in an obvious do-gooder role for so long?

Are the terrorists trying to say that they "profile" no matter what? Anyone who ~looks~ Western is up for the same treatment?

These people are animals, it is imperative that we slaughter every last one of these pigs...not back away from them or they will do eventually to all of us what they do to the few poor souls that they get their hands on.

These bottom feeders only pretend to be Men, They are only capable of frightening the weak and the children.
We have had our hand stayed by Our civilized standard and the opinion of cowards, but the terrorist sadists have not read history well enough.
Free and decent Folks all across the World are turning to stand, the apologists and placaters are becoming irrelevant, there will never be enough rocks on Earth to hide the evil insects.
