I believe that tradition holds that all cabinet members will tender their resignations thus giving the president the option of asking them to stay or replace them.

That's been my understanding.

Curious note: Giuliani's business enterprise of late involved anthrax cleanup at AMI offices.

"I hope Rudy Guilliani replaces one of them!"

There's more than one?

Guilliani is a gun grabber that doesn't believe in the 2nd, is pro abort. He will not defend the Bill of Rights. He will defend his opinion, vision and agenda.

Specter is now the guy to watch. How extensive are a chairman's powers over a nomination if a majority of the committee is for it?

So appoint Specter to replace Ashcroft and get him off the committee.
Then Sessions can take over the chair.

That's a shame. History will show that Attorney General Ashcroft was as responsible as anyone for the relative safety we have enjoyed since the 2001 coordinated terrorist attacks.

That's not such a bad idea - especially where the the gov is R and state's laws for replacing senators are such that don't require a special election to fill the term - just an appointment by the Gov...

I hope his successor will be just as annoying to the left.

I don't know you, but I like you!

Guiliani to replace Ashcroft, who is resigning to accept a supreme court nomination in replacement for retiring Rehnquist.

Do you have a source for this?

Oh, I had forgotten him... and I'm a political junky of the most extreme sort. That highlights his uselessness.

But, since you asked, and since I'm calling the shots in my fantasy world, I think I will get rid of him, barring my first inclination to just do away with the Department of Transportation altogether.

I'd go with the tough law and order type, like the NYC cop... Bernard something?... since Transportation Dept's principle preoccupation ought to be airline and port security.

Gall bladder surgery I think. Much like Ed Meese, I've never cared much for Ashcroft. The FBI needs to get off of shooting up Eagle Scouts and no-knocking weed patch gardeners and getting our law enforcement assets focused on our borders, immigration deportations when locals arrest illegals. It's gotten to the point where municipalities won't even stop illegals and do a DMV check because if they lock them up for no license, no insurance, no registration, and being here illegally, the DOJ won't even come to pick them up. Ashcroft's boyz were draining ponds, circle jerking the Hatfill mania, covering statues, and airing commercials to beg people to comply with the law while much bigger nafarious critters are pouring into this country and millions have overstayed their visas and no effort is being made to catch them and boot them.. The FBI is still incompetent and corrupt and everyone who works for the DOJ should be fired and only rehired after going thru their own background and competency checks performed by an outside contractor.

I heard Fox news mention this to Giuliani today as a possibility and I caught a little gleam in his eye.

Maybe so he's available for a Supremem Court Jsutice opening? (Trying to think of what one thing would push the libs over the cliff the fastest heh heh heh)

I'm with you...the only two better I could think of would be Robert Bork redux, Nancy Reagan, or G.H.W.B "41"--
solely from the left's reaction.
