My history books said the south lost the Civil War, but apparently that was just a battle. The south lost the battle of 1861-1865, but now are winning the war.
Excuse the map, I could not find one that had all the states colored in.
Thanks....I sure miss ole Sally Sunfish!
Though I agree with your views on Abortion, I do NOT think that Abe was a "tool of the Lord", The South was the MOST moral and Christian part of the country at the time and STILL is today!
Sounds like a lot of Abolitionist CR*P! Besides, that is the ONLY testimony I have ever seen of such nonsense. There is much more documentation that Lee treated his slaves kindly. I am quite sure that whoever put out such tripe was trying to discredit Lee after the war. If you honestly believe that garbage, then I have certainly given you more respect and credit than you deserve!
The infamous "Crawfish" himself....I had more respect for Noni, but now.......!
Help! I'm overcome with guilt! 25 years ago I moved out of a northern county that voted for Kerry. I live comfortably now in reddest of red counties here in Georgia. Am I still responsible for where I was born? Doesn't 2 decades of living in a red state account for anything? Am I still reponsible for an accident of Birth?
[AJ] Its the whole problem with liberals. They are all dumb as stumps, so dumb they think there smart, but they couldn't pour used beer out of a boot.
Play nice. Non is far from dumb, and most decidedly not a liberal.
Insulting? Yes, incredibly so. Dumb and liberal? No.
War? What war? The idea that Lincoln would talk about the importance of keeping the Union together, while he inhaled the stench of dead bodies from those who died fighting over that very issue, but he wasn't promoting that war as the way to accomplish that objective, is an idea that only someone dumb as a stump could buy into.
I have had plenty of go-arounds with non-sequitur. He chose a fitting screen-name for himself.
LOL
My family is Old South- great-great-grandfather had an iron foundry burned in the War. I have put a few non-native Virginians in their place when they talk condescendingly that Southerners should get over the War. That being said, I believe the South does not have a monopoly on virtues and values.
For the record, no I don't believe it. It goes against everything I've read about Lee and against a considerable body of evidence that indicates he was not abusive to his slaves. It is a single, unsupported story. Just like the stuff that Bushpilot posted. He will accept as gospel that Mrs. Grant owned slaves when all evidence shows that it would have been impossible for her to do so. He will claim that she wanted Grant to beat the slaves, without offering the slightes shred of evidence to support it. He can make the outrageous claims without comment or contradiction, but post one negative thing about the sainted Bobby Lee and you all go postal. Myth is accepted as fact on the southern matters but not Northern ones I guess.
Oh don't. There's no need to. But I'm wondering. Since you felt the need to make the claim that you are a "lady who's not ashamed of being intelligent, honest, well informed, and classy," could it be that you doubt that others have formed that same opinion of you?
I don't know about Mrs. Grant, but I do know that Grant himself owned slaves.....He was my Great-Great-Great Grandmothers first cousin, or so I have been told. Now did he beat them, I doubt it. But I do know he could have cared less for ending slavery, he was more concerned about preserving the Union.
Slave, singular. And rather than sell the man, even though he needed the money, he emancipated him when he moved his family to Illinois. Or maybe he just got tired of beating him at the urging of Mrs. Grant, huh? </sarcasm>
Since the war against southern slavery, the south has been the decider in evry single election in the past century. You have to win at least some of the south to win the presidency. Algore and Kerry failed to win a single state.
"I have now three Negro men, two hired by the year and one of Mr. Dent's." -- Grant in letter to his father, March 21, 1858
"Mr. Dent thinks I had better take the boy he has given Julia along with me, and let him learn the farrier's business. He is a very smart, active boy, capable of making anything, but this matter I will leave entirely to you. I can leave him here and get about three dollars per month for him now, and more as he gets older." -- Grant in letter to his father, October 1, 1858
According to this Grant didn't buy William Jones, he was given to the Grant's by Julia Grant's father. When did he commence to beating him?
Quoth the Non-Sequitur, "Squack! Tu quoque! Tu quoque! Bushpilot did it too! Tu quoque!"
Bought, given, won - same difference. The Grants owned the aforementioned slave plus four that were his wife's "servants." And don't give us any of your crap about how they belonged to Grant's wife but not to Grant. You're starting to sound like John Kerry on his SUV's.
