I am honored to represent the GOP today as a poll watcher in very conservative Riverside County, California. I have a hot line to FR and will post any newsworthy events on this thread as they occur. Please ask to be on a ping list if you like.
Chock up 2 for Bush in Chino Hills...just got back from voting.
It was kind of funny, someone at work asked who I was voting for...I said "I have a Marine Corps sticker on my car...who do you think I am voting for?" :)
turn out looked bigger than usual in Wrigley area (LB).
NO one but poll workers smiling - all very serious about this election.
Also, poll workers were quite professional and they handled the one provisional that came in properly.
I did note fewer voting booths this time than last; but all were in use 100% while I was there.

I live in Antioch, in the east bay. Our polling spot was busier than I have ever seen it. Lots of Bush/Cheney signs appeared over night. One provisional ballot was issued while I was in the booth. We voted at 11:00 am, and every booth was full. I'm usually one of two or three at that time of the morning.
Just returned from voting in the Socialist Republic of Santa Monica....about four block from the ocean. Everybody's on the Kool-Aid here and apparently are heavy drinkers at that. Usually a five minute wait...today it took 90 minutes. Lots of sKerry bumper stickers.....no Bush....but at least I cancelled out one communist vote today.
I'm disappointed in my brother. He did not push his liberal wife down the stairs and break her leg to keep her from voting. :)

Buena Park, Ca.: Got to the polls early with my 20 yr. old daughter and we voted straight Republican ticket all the way.
They had all the new electronic voting machines and the older people were confused in using them so it made for a longer than normal wait to vote. I knew I could ask for a paper ballot so I did. Filled it in in about 5 minutes. My daughter wanted to try the new machines so I waited about 15 minutes more for her to finish up.
Only problems I noticed were the poll workers didn't seem too swift. An asian man and his wife came in and he said he was listed as absentee, but he had to ask for a new ballot in his language which he never got and he wanted to cast a ballot there. The workers didn't seem to know what to do, until one young worker came over and said 'I think you have to give him a provisional ballot'.
While I was in the cardboard box filling out my paper ballot I could hear some guy talking loudly in line about how this is the worst election in years and there really is no good choice between the candidates. I thought his loud mouth opinions were inappropriate as he was within 3 feet of people voting.
I voted just now in San Diego also - out of a garage polling place. No line, no wait. I was very relieved because I thought I'd have to head down to the Registrar's and deal with that madness with the little one in tow.
The people were very polite and helpful (I'd never used the optical scan system). It's very easy. When he pointed out how to fill out the ballot - he had a chart with examples, no names. As in "not this way (X)" ... "like this (solid bubble)".
When I was leaving I noticed a woman in her SUV watching the polling place from the end of the cul de sac, but have no idea what her affiliation was. Just watching.
She was gone when hubby voted after me not 15 mins later.
The Dems have neglected CA. A win is possible--Make it happen!

and have prayed all day today. I have actually done the rosary 3 times since this morning.
Some small but good news from California. I talked to a mother of child in my daughter's class today. She is pretty much your stereotypical liberal soccer mom.
She came up to me and told me that she voted for Bush, and that she cannot stand Kerry. She agreed that he flipflops, he's elitist, and she really doesn't like Teresa.
I hope she is not alone!
FReeper "rabid dog" is one of our Republican county coordinators. She, and the others have done a great job with getting out the vote.

im a student at uc berkeley, believe it or not (GO BEARS!), and just voted in my FIRST presidential election...and i couldn't feel greater.
and yeah...it's berkeley, and most stereotypes are probably true.
