Just got done voting here in the Detroit suburbs. Everything was smooth, no big line for our district. The Democrats are out in force here in the Detroit Michigan area. There were 5 RATS standing out in the rain in trenchcoats with umbrellas and when I approached to enter the school, I was asked to vote for Kerry and "save our families" by voting NO on the gay marriage ban. The guy stuck some literature in my face and said "We're asking for your help". I yelled "GET OUTTA MY FACE" ala Zell Miller (and it felt SOOOOO good!). LOL The guy said "Well, OKAY" and stepped aside with a stunned look and I brushed by him quickly. When I walked out, the guy said "Have a nice day!" I'm not sure exactly how far they were from the door other than to say it was a bit intimidating to be confronted on the way into vote. Does anyone know the laws about what people can and cannot do outside a polling area?

No problem here. I was first in line and in the rain. We're a republican stronghold in eastern Jackson county.

I'm in Ohio, and I've heard that you have to be at least 100-200 feet away from the polling place to distribute political literature.
Imo, what they did was HIGHLY illegal and an open violation of the laws.

Voted early-was in line @ 6:30 along with about 15 other people. Voting was smooth, no problems, polls opened at 7 am without delay. By the time I left, about 50 people in line-I have heard of lines of over 100 people in other areas already. The optiscan machine was working properly and let me know if my vote counted or not.

Call or look on your local TV websites, they may have a phone number you can call to report a problem like you encountered at the polls. They cannot approach you like that at the polling precinct--they cannot have signs or literature--let the media know what was going on immediately!

Michigan law is 100 ft. There should be a yellow line on the sidewalk showing where the limit is.

Just voted in Whitehall. No line at all. Walked right in and voted. Was told by city manager that 20% of registered voters have already voted by 8AM (includes absentee).

Voted early this morning. I was second in line at 6:45. By the time I got done the parking lot was packed and long line had formed. No problems though. I'm in the Lansing area.

I voted at 7:50am after taking my kids to school. We have two precinct's where I vote one had a long line with quite a wait and the other alot smaller. I live in a town of 4500 and my number was 311. Allegan is a republican county.

Parking will probably be one of the biggest problems-it was where I voted in the Walker area! People were quiet in line, nobody trying to sway any votes or being intimidated.

Voting very heavy in West Michigan. Very, very heavy. Lousy weather today - great for us.

I pulled up the my school in Dearborn at 7:00. I was in and out in less than 40 minutes. There was one guy handing out literature and I just said no thanks. As I walked by I noticed it was a flier to vote no on prop 2 (gay marriage ban). No Bush or Kerry people there, which is kind of surprising as my neighborhood seems to be split 50/50 based on yard signs. AS I was standing in line, two people from MoveOn PAC showed up to check in voters they had registered. I told them they had to take their sign out and the one punk said that they could be there because they were not endorsing any candidate. I know the school principal and and election person talked to them. When I finished voting they had moved outside into the rain!

Polling District 30
Troy, Michigan
Everything went smooth at 7:30 when I voted except a very young homely girl was angry that she didn't know which precinct she was in. Obviously a kerry vote looking for a place to happen.
People in line snickered at her ignorance.

I was going to vote when the polls opened. Unfortunately the parking lot was full and there were people parking on the edge of the roads running by the Twp. Building. Montcalm Twp, Montcalm County. The most people I had ever seen at one time there.
It may be a bad sign as this area was hit hard with Manufacturing job losses in the last year or two. Lot of Kreepy Kerry signs around.
AB Electrolux, Tower Stamping, Federal Mogul, Greenville Wire etc.

Thanks a lot for posting the Michigan election law excerpt. These people were definitely more than 100 ft from the entrance. I'm still mad about this and will go back later this a.m. to see what is going on. I'm sure it will get worse as the day goes on and the RATS get out of bed at 11:00 a.m.

Mt. Clemens was fine. Decent turnout so far for a precinct that's not known for a whole lot of voters. I was approached by a lady who asked me to vote for her Dad for state Rep. I told her that he had my vote. A worker for the Rat Prosecutor candidate wearing a MoveOn armband got a little miffed when I told her there was no way I was voting for her guy.
That was all.
