Heinz Kerry stumps one last time in area ("Do you know how to vote often?")

Calling the 2004 presidential election the beginning of a fresh start for America, Teresa Heinz Kerry asked supporters at a Monday Rally at Scranton High School to "vote often" today.

"Do you know how to vote often?" the wife of Democratic candidate Sen. John Kerry asked a crowd of just over 1,000 in the school's auditorium.

"You vote once, and then you take one, two, three, four, five people to vote with you. That's voting often, so vote often."

Citing the loss of thousands of jobs, rising health care costs, a soaring federal budget deficit and the high number of Pennsylvanians serving in Iraq, Heinz Kerry said the people of her adopted home state and across the nation have "a very clear choice" between "four more years of the same or a fresh start."

Recalling her childhood in Mozambique, Heinz Kerry said her rise to such a prominent role in a presidential campaign could happen "only in America." She added that being a Pennsylvanian "taught me how to be an American and how to be a citizen."

Heinz Kerry became a Pennsylvanian in 1966, after marrying the late Sen. John Heinz. The three-term Republican senator and heir to the Heinz family fortune was killed in a plane crash in 1991.

Sen. Heinz was "a wonderful Republican," Heinz Kerry said, "the kind which, unfortunately, is not leading the country at this time."

She referred to Sen. Heinz often during her 40-minute speech, drawing laughs when a technical problem with the sound system created a loud tapping sound.

"He's talking to us now," she said, looking up at the ceiling.

Heinz Kerry addressed much of her talk to the roughly 300 Scranton and West Scranton High School students in the audience.

Recalling her days protesting against Apartheid as a college student in South Africa, she encouraged the students to "take a stand" when they are confronted with injustice.

"We have a job to do," she said. "We have a job to do for the future. This is just the beginning of the hard work we're going to have to do once we get going. It's going to take all of us."

Heinz Kerry said a Kerry administration would work to keep jobs in Pennsylvania, secure affordable health, save Social Security and "change the face" of U.S. foreign policy.

Under President Kerry, she said, that face would be "a face that is compassionate but not condescending, a face that is strong but not threatening, a face that is proud but never arrogant."

Has anyone else noticed that throughout this entire campaign, it seems that not one person running for re-election in the House or Senate has asked Kerry to appear with him/her? Instead, the Democrat candidates have totally disavowed themselves from this phony man and his crazy wife.
Second point: If this election is so razor thin, then why is the GOP showing unprecedented signs of strength in Congressional races? I suspect GWBs coattails are long and very effective. Anyone else agree?

Per Drudge...

Before voting even began in downtown Philladelphia -- poll watchers found over 1000 votes already planted on machines... One incident occurred at 2601 N. 11th St., Philadelphia, Pa: Ward 37, division 8... pollwatchers uncovered 4 machines with planted votes; one with over 200 and one with nearly 500... A second location, 1901 W. Girard Ave., Berean Institute, Philadelphia, Pa, had 300+ votes already on 2 machines at start of day... Developing...

They haven't let her near a microphone since her "real job" remark about First Lady Laura Bush. They finally took off the muzzle today.

Poor sKerry will never measure up to her former husband.

She's channeling his voice now too. Must have picked up that trick from John Edwards or even Hillary Clinton.

Oh, she's channeling a voice alright. She surely learned that from Hillary who no doubt taught that little trick to pretty boy John.

But I don't think it's the voice of John Heinz (think lower, hot and sulphuric), just someone posing as John Heinz.

;-)
