Heinz Kerry stumps one last time in area ("Do you know how to vote often?")

Calling the 2004 presidential election the beginning of a fresh start for America, Teresa Heinz Kerry asked supporters at a Monday Rally at Scranton High School to "vote often" today.

"Do you know how to vote often?" the wife of Democratic candidate Sen. John Kerry asked a crowd of just over 1,000 in the school's auditorium.

"You vote once, and then you take one, two, three, four, five people to vote with you. That's voting often, so vote often."

Citing the loss of thousands of jobs, rising health care costs, a soaring federal budget deficit and the high number of Pennsylvanians serving in Iraq, Heinz Kerry said the people of her adopted home state and across the nation have "a very clear choice" between "four more years of the same or a fresh start."

Recalling her childhood in Mozambique, Heinz Kerry said her rise to such a prominent role in a presidential campaign could happen "only in America." She added that being a Pennsylvanian "taught me how to be an American and how to be a citizen."

Heinz Kerry became a Pennsylvanian in 1966, after marrying the late Sen. John Heinz. The three-term Republican senator and heir to the Heinz family fortune was killed in a plane crash in 1991.

Sen. Heinz was "a wonderful Republican," Heinz Kerry said, "the kind which, unfortunately, is not leading the country at this time."

She referred to Sen. Heinz often during her 40-minute speech, drawing laughs when a technical problem with the sound system created a loud tapping sound.

"He's talking to us now," she said, looking up at the ceiling.

Heinz Kerry addressed much of her talk to the roughly 300 Scranton and West Scranton High School students in the audience.

Recalling her days protesting against Apartheid as a college student in South Africa, she encouraged the students to "take a stand" when they are confronted with injustice.

"We have a job to do," she said. "We have a job to do for the future. This is just the beginning of the hard work we're going to have to do once we get going. It's going to take all of us."

Heinz Kerry said a Kerry administration would work to keep jobs in Pennsylvania, secure affordable health, save Social Security and "change the face" of U.S. foreign policy.

Under President Kerry, she said, that face would be "a face that is compassionate but not condescending, a face that is strong but not threatening, a face that is proud but never arrogant."

This was during the school day in Scranton? I'm sure they allowed Republicans to have rallies in school facilities during class time, right? Someone needs to protest this!

The air of smug superiority that wafts off of her has an ugly stench.

Lighten up, and follow her advice - - - buttonhole your friends and acquaintances, ask them if they've voted, and offer to take them to the polls if they haven't. That's a perfectly legitimate way to "vote often".

uh...well....marrying a rich entrepreneur helps....and then marrying a far left, pinko gigolo whom his party selects for a presidential run helps even more......but just remember the 'first lady' needs to be a 'lady' still......

First off, if this was an election rally, why was she campaigning to students, the vast majority of whom aren't old enough to vote? Second, why is she allowed to use a public school for a campaign speech? A school is a tax exempt organization; would this break an IRS rules?

As for the protest, it won't happen. Scranton is a blue-collar democrat stronghold, so a protest will get no traction.

-"He's talking to us now," she said, looking up at the ceiling."-

And he's saying, "Why, oh WHY did you marry that lying bum?"

I can see why she's hittin' the gin-soaked raisins.

Have you all noticed the Democrat party has kept the "witch" out of sight for the last week and a half? No wonder, she is too much vermin even for the "traitor" Democrat Party. Defeat John Osama "Treason" bin Laden Kerry. Vote for GW Bush today!!!

Funny how she claims she got 'round to protesting Apartheid in South Africa, but never got 'round to protesting the intolerable racial oppression by the Portugese in her native Mozambique.

It really chaps my a** that she seems to be inferring that her childhood in Mozambique was somehow less than privileged. Truth and anyone in the Kerry camp seem never to have been introduced. It has never been proved that her family' servants in Mozambique were not slaves, which was prevalent at the time. Thankfully we are on the downhill slope of this campaign, and I will glad to get to the celebrating later on today.

Poor John Heinz, just when I thought he'd suffered enough indignity with his wife's marriage to Kerry and conversion to the Far left Dem side, Tazmanian Tuhrayzuh now quotes him to support her second John. Gag. John Heinz must be spinning in his grave. And his sons now tow the Dim line for Kerry, too. So very sad. (sadly shaking head...)

Shameless! I don't think Senator Heinz would have backed Kerry for President.
