Good morning, freepers. As you may already know, this is where we place links to other Terri threads at Free Republic and other breaking news about Terri Schindler-Schiavo.
In addition, this is a place to meet and plan ways to use grassroots activism to help Terri's Fight.
If you are a newbie to Terri's Fight, I urge you to visit http://www.terrisfight.org where you can subscribe to their newsletter, can get up to speed on the court cases and the very long struggle.
As far as what can Free Republic do for Terri's Fight, in the November Dailies Thread (here), please consider joining us.
The pay isn't very good lol but it is rewarding to help Terri nonetheless. Terri's life has as much value as anyone else's. The right to die movement needs a counter-balance. That freepers, is where we come in. TO JOIN TERRI'S FREEPERS, I would ask that newbies and old guard Terri freepers do a post to join us under our new name: TERRI'S FREEPERS.
Terri ping to 539. One of the best articles I've read in a long time. People who aren't familiar with Terri's whole story should read this article. It is the unskewed version of what the St. Pete Slimes and Tampa Tribune write.
Terri ping to 540 also. Kudos to the Schindlers' lawyers for this wonderful document. Let's pray that it's actually read and considered by the judges.
Thanks for the pings. That is a very powerful article. I still have to read the document, but my initial scan of it looked promising. It appears to be direct hit.
Fr. Murphy explained the Churchs complex and nuanced moral teaching as it existed in January 2000.
[Mr. Felos:] Father, in the Catholic [C]hurch, do papal teachings or pronouncements hold primacy as compared to the teachings and pronouncements of bishops or cardinals?
[Fr. Murphy:] Yes. The Pope sets the tone.
[Mr. Felos:] Are there any papal pronouncements or teachings in the area on use or removal of artificial life support?
[Fr. Murphy:] In 1953 Pope Pius the IV met with a group of physicians who considered those questions in conference. Pius was almost prophetic in foreseeing what would happen fifty forty years later. The teaching that he taught was that Catholics are mortally bound to respect life and to care for life, but not at all costs. He introduced the concept of extraordinary versus ordinary means. A Catholic is mortally bound to take advantage of the ordinary, proportionate or disproportionate. (App. at 364-65) (emphasis added).
Wow! He's good! He's very thorough, and he gets in a few good jabs. He's going to smoke some butts. He's already started.
Yes, and why Greer can't see that what JPII has to say about it isn't substantially different than what Father Murphy said is beyond me. The Pope gave it great clarity. IMHO Greer's either incompetent or evil or both. He should not be sitting in that chair.
TERRI'S BIRTHDAY CARD THREAD Ohioan, my ping up that thread was not a complete one; would you please ping your list to that? THANKS!
THANKS to all who have posted there. I've done a test print of the posts -- it will make a nice greeting for her folks to supplement the "real" cards she'll get.
If anyone would like to know how to post favorite pictures or learn something new & fun to post for Terri, go to an "HTML how-to" thread.
Terri outlived Father Murphy.

noted, thanks for that reminder -- evening bump for Terri.
... and, iIrc, had her kitties put to death? without even seeing if a friend or family member might like to take them in ...
It's a rainy evening, my kitty is sleeping nearby ... how I wish Terri could be visited by therapeutic animals as others in similar situations are.
Freedom of association ... denied to Terri.
Thanks for the post & the ping. Not mentioned there as I skimmed through it is that it wasn't until 1998 or so that the FL legislature made a change so that hydration and nutrition would become "extraordinary means". Before that time, they were understood to be ORDINARY, expected care. That's the slippery slope effect at work.
Terri's fight website has good info, good links -- most powerful are the photos of Terri as she is right now as she responds to her mother. Keep up the good work, keep those photos in the forefront. Billboard? Newspaper ad?
My personal favorite is the video (Terri's cough) in which her mother is adjusting her pillow and fussing over her and Terri's enjoying her mom's attention.

Hi, amdgmary, happy Sunday to you!
... great PURPLE post!
Thank you for the video link, phenn.
Wedding video draws mixed emotions from Terri Schiavo's parents ...http://www.wfts.com/stories/2004/11/041124schiavo.shtml
From the link above.
PINELLAS PARK - November 10, 1984 was a crisp autumn morning in South Hampton, Pennsylvania. It was also Terri Schindler's wedding day.
The bitter legal battle over Terri's future has captured the bay area's attention for nearly seven years. Most people only know Terri as she appears in the videos taken after her heart attack, where she is unable to talk or walk.
But recently, for the first time in 20 years, Terri's parents sat down and watched Terri's wedding tape and invited Action News viewers to join them.
The first few minutes of the tape drew smiles and warm memories from the Schindlers.
"She was so happy then she was," Mary Schindler recalled. "I remember when we were upstairs getting ready, and I just told her how proud I was of her and that I wanted her to be happy, and that I hoped I didn't cry all day. I remember saying that and we just laughed."
It was Bob's proudest moment, walking his daughter down the aisle. It was evident how much he misses Terri -- the house grew silent as Terri's voice played from the TV, a voice no one has heard in 14 years.
As the watched the tape, the Schindlers began with smiles...
The tape became harder to watch for the family as Terri Schindler exchanged vows with Michael Schiavo.
"Now it watch it, and obviously they were meaningless," Bob observed.
"I am not angry at him anymore. It's been going on too long. It's just sad what he's doing now. I feel it's very sad," Mary added.
Michael Schiavo is locked in an ongoing court battle with the Schindlers. Schiavo claims his wife said she would not want to live in a permanently vegetative state, as she now does, but the family does not want her life-sustaining feeding tube removed.
The family has accused Michael of purposefully blocking their access to Terri's hospice care facility, among other things. So how did they feel watching the young couple's first kiss as a husband and wife years ago?
"It makes me feel good for her because, at that time in her life, she was very much in love. I mean, she was really in love with him, as him with her, and I was very happy for them then," Mary said.
...but those smiles soon turned to tears.
The court battle between the two parties has dragged on for years, but nearly every decision has been in Michael Schiavo's favor. Despite that, the Schindlers are sure that their daughter's feeding tube will never be removed.
"Not speaking for Mary, but I don't really think about it. I still believe she is not going to meet that violent death," Bob offered.
"We are going to lose her. Everyone is going to die. But I don't think the Lord is going to have that kind of a death for her. I think he is going to take her when he is ready to take her. I think she will just die naturally," Mary continued.
Every time they visit her, Terri's parents said they pledge to continue their fight because they feel she deserves it.
"I always tell her: 'We are going to get you help, we are going to fix you, Terri,' " they both explained together. "Always. 'We are going to get you help, we are trying so hard, honey. We are going get you help.' "
In the last week, I thought I read a post somewhere, that said ... Terri had been 'relocated'...?? What does that mean? To another room, or out of hospice back to a nursing home..?
AND, that her family has been able to have regular visits with Terri. Any new info on that, that someone could share?
It would be nice if each photo would have the date (at least the year), so we know what year these various photos were taken. And a caption with each.
The pictures of "Terri Big Eyes", from the video; - they show very clearly that Terri is responsive and not in a coma, etc. But, I don't see a date. There is the one photo of Terri & her Mom that probably shows Terri's more current condition, after all the years of neglect. The 'Big Eyes' photos show Terri in a very nice & well lit room. We have heard that in recent years.. (a decade?) that Terri has been imprisoned & isolated in a dimly lit or dark hospice room.
Anyone want to help put together a Photo Gallery / Album, or, have a link to one?

I agree. HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Newspaper ad? Billboard?
Idea of photo gallery good one -- esp. one people can use to send to Gov Bush, friends, et al to freely pass on info on how Terri REALLY is right now: ie, NOT IN A COMA, NOT PVS.
