Clinton 1, Redskins 0
On Tuesday we discussed the "Redskins rule," according to which if the Washington NFL team wins its last game before a presidential election, the incumbent party prevails; otherwise, it goes down to defeat. "As in sports," we noted, quoting an earlier article of ours, "streaks and slumps in politics go on only until they end."
Well, it turns out this particular streak already ended, eight years ago. According to blogger Justin Taylor, on whose posting we relied, the Redskins beat the Indianapolis Colts in 1996's last pre-election game, and the incumbent, Bill Clinton, was re-elected.
It's true of course that Clinton won, and the Redskins did beat the Colts, 31-16--but that game took place Oct. 27, eight years ago yesterday. On Nov. 3, the 7-1 Skins lost to the 5-3 Buffalo Bills, 38-13--and the incumbent president won two days later.

(so far)
TX teams win, MA team loses => GWB victory Tuesday
I find it interesting that if this was such a phenomena, why is this the first time we've ever heard about it, and why is it the first time the media ever reported.
BUT someone pointed out recently that the Skins no longer play in DC but in Maryland - the plot thickens.
Depends.
How much money was at stake if the Skins won? Would there be a huge payoff?
More like as Mork from Ork said..the plot clots. Anyone consider the bellweather streak of Missouri? A bit more relevant to election outcomes than football scores.
Where are you going to be election eve?
No Democrat gets into the White House without Missouri?
Upland. I couldn't get a flight. :) It was only once, and I was just showing how silly these supposed streaks are. I went to bed sick to my stomach thinking Gore had won.
Something like that but it works both ways. I don't know how far back the streak goes but Missouri has gone with winner for a long time.
That would be Ohio.
No President gets into the White House without winning Ohio.
Worth? ... Soemone needs to contact that partisan political hack, Oberman at MSNBC, and inform him that his little effort to lie for his demi-god has been blown wide open. Keith is typical of the partisan BM (big media) stinking up the airways.
I e mailed a couple libs today telling them the very same thing. Redskins lost, you win, so just stay home. Why fight the crowds?
Weatherman is predicting rain, cold, and the weatherman said, "raw" for Tuesday.
This is for Cleveland, Ohio.
Now that is something to celebrate.
On a slightly different note, Maybe the Boston Redsox Championship will ease the pain of Kerry being obliterated at the polls.
All past precedents are non factors! The foundations are broken, The wheels are fallen off, so get ready for the ride of your Life! The President will win re-election! All the peripherals are just a prelude to a Victory by the sovereign hand of God!!!
