LAS VEGAS, Oct. 29 -- He was an hour late. So when President Bill Clinton took the stage this afternoon at the Clark County Government Center amphitheater, the crowd acted like starving dogs presented with thick, juicy steak.
"We love you! We love you!" a group of women screamed, drowning out Clinton's opening lines for hundreds of people around them.
The Comeback Kid had come to Las Vegas for his first solo campaign appearance in a swing state since his quadruple-bypass heart surgery, a compliment the crowd of 2,500 was determined to return. They cheered at whatever he said, laughed at the slightest hint of a joke and acted for all the world as though the former president were campaigning for his old job, not playing surrogate for Sen. John F. Kerry.

The official line from Dems is that Nevada is in play. For that matter, so is Arkansas.

Has anyone who has listened to his speeches noticed any differences that would indicate "brain damage"? I noticed one person here said he "slurred his words" at the first rally. It is probably all just hype that he is ill anyway, an attempt for sympathy.

The Government center is three miles from the "Strip". Everyone was fully clothed. I can't believe he only drew 2,500. That is about how many people work in the building he stoppped at. It is amazing considering Clark County favors the Dems. In contrast, the Prez had over 12,000 here about ten days ago in the morning on a work day. I think Nevada will be a Red state with a 2-5% spread, maybe higher.
