NEA spends more than $1 million to back Kerry (Look out Mark R Levin is on the case)
THE WASHINGTON TIMES ^ | October 29, 2004 | George Archibald

The National Education Association (NEA) pumped more than $1 million into 67 mailings for the Kerry-Edwards presidential ticket and against President Bush in the past four months, Federal Election Commission reports show.

Twenty-one NEA mailings in behalf of the Kerry campaign, produced by an Arlington firm whose clients include the Democratic Party, went out to hundreds of thousands of public school employees across the country this month at a cost of $468,333. The union paid for all the mailings from its general operating budget, not its political action committee, the reports show.

Also, the nation's largest school union contributed about $1.8 million directly to Democratic congressional candidates so far this year, with multiple donations ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to 208 Democratic incumbents and challengers from April through July, the reports show.

NEA is being audited by the Internal Revenue Service, said Mark R. Levin, president of Virginia-based Landmark Legal Foundation, who said his group is "actively investigating" political spending by the tax-exempt union.

"Despite the fact that the NEA is being audited by the IRS for using its tax-exempt funds for political purposes, it seems that this election cycle it's spending more than ever," Mr. Levin said.

NEA officials did not respond to requests for comment.

In a July interview, NEA President Reg Weaver said about one-third of the union's 2.7 million dues-paying members are Democrats, one-third are Republicans and one-third are independents.

FEC reports show that only four Republican congressional candidates received money from the NEA's political action committee from April through July -- Sens. Olympia J. Snowe of Maine and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Reps. C.W. Bill Young of Florida and Jim Kolbe of Arizona.

There are so many people with differing thoughts on the program. But, what Mark is doing, is a really really good start.

All that money even as Ter$a says that teaching isn't a real job. Shameful.

The NEA overtly urinates on the IRS and the American legal system: "WE are above any law... WE do whatever WE want... WE do whatever WE want, when WE want to do it."

I don't think they should be allowed to donate to any political event - for either side.

But someone should record the names of the Repubs. Perhaps they just exposed some fakes -

just my thoughts -

Holy Carl Jung, Batman! I was just thinking about the NEA and Levin an hour ago!

Seems that unless the NEA was registered as some 527, everything they did was illegal and they should be held accountable.

Fine the hell out of them, and allow no political participation, including through third parties through 2010!

Which is exactly why we must separate school and state. Until we get the government money out of education, groups like the NEA will spend our own public money against us.

Not with our money, at least. They tax to pay teachers' salaries, require teachers to hand over a portion of said salaries, and then use the same to lobby against those of us tired of paying taxes that end up in the coffers of the NEA.

It's like being held up by the gun you paid for...

Nah... still has the government's handprints.

Here's a novel idea: let parents pay for education. We do; we homeschool. And, as a result, no one from the government tells us what to teach, which text to use, which test to take (which in turn, controls what you must teach), etc.

Another result? Kids that outperform the publicly funded system hands down... and know their parents, too. What a concept.

Besides that - the education they are giving is geared towards Socialism - and that also harms this nation -

Man, so much work needs done to get this nation back on track - it pains the heart to think about it even -

I hope President Bush in his second term takes note of "all" that is going "wrong" in America - and moves to make things right again.

An example of brainwashing: One(person) once thought of as an American is now identified as a conservative - (and frowned upon by the major media and the Socialist who have invaded our political system and nation)

Reminds me of the title of an article I once read: "If I'm on the Right, Who Moved the Center?"

Exactly - funny at times but at others - you wonder how did it get to this point -

It was almost as shocking when I learned by being concerned about what was happening in America - I had become an "activist" - All these terms to deal with and all I want to be is an American and keep America as it had been for over 200 years -

Take care now -

"Bravo Zulu", Exigence !! I do believe you are on to something with the voucher proposal.

It seems to me that parents should have a choice --financial and otherwise -- about not only the quality of their children's education, but the tenor (spell political environment) as well.

I have had recent first-hand experience as an adjunct prof, dealing with a biased, left-saturated higher educational institution, It was not a pleasant exxperience.

I say, cut the heart out of a failed public educational system the only way possibe -- by funding alternate sources of quality education on a competitive --head-to head basis.

We will prevail every time -- and eventually the NEA will be neutered. And, our national educational system will be enhanced dramatically.

Have a great weekend. Vote early and often.
