URGENT
AP NewsBreak: FBI begins investigating how Halliburton got Bush administration contracts
By JOHN SOLOMON
Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) - The FBI has begun investigating whether the Pentagon improperly awarded no-bid contracts to Halliburton Co., seeking an interview with a top Army contracting officer and collecting documents from several government offices.

The line of inquiry expands an earlier FBI investigation into whether Halliburton overcharged taxpayers for fuel in Iraq, and it elevates to a criminal matter the election-year question of whether the Bush administration showed favoritism to Vice President Dick Cheney's former company.

FBI agents this week sought permission to interview Bunnatine Greenhouse, the Army Corps of Engineers' chief contracting officer who went public last weekend with allegations that her agency unfairly awarded a Halliburton subsidiary no-bid contracts worth billions of dollars in Iraq, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.

So was the bogus indictment of Cap Weinberger just days before the 92 election. You are dead wrong, this will hurt.

My understanding was that the only possible competitor for a lot of the Haliburton type of work was some French outfit. Unfortunatley I don't have that reference.

Exactly!

Halliburton? LOL!!!

These people are thickheaded! Americans don't care about HALIBURTON!

That's okay, though. Let them spin on Haliburton and cause our eyes glaze over.

"unfairly awarded?"

Yawn. Clinton's adminstration let out no-bid contracts to *gasp* Halliburton to rebuild Bosnia. BFD.

This is only asking permission to ask questions of someone. This is not an indictment, not a pending indictment, it's not even an allegation! This is one of the most pathetic attempts at inflating nothing into a political MOAB immaginable. Expect Kerry to have a "Halliburton scandal" ad by sunrise.

Expect Democrats will attempt to give this legs in a 2nd Bush term. Expect them to raise the phoney spector of impeachment not out of genuine concern but out of revenge over Clinton's impeachment just like this election is seen as revenge for Gore's humiliating loss.

Hey, this can be weaved seamlessly into the attacks on Kerry and NYTrogate:

Kerry questions competence of armed forces by embracing false/questionable NYT story too quickly and congressional Dems use influence to goad FBI into attacking the Army Corps of Engineers by questioning their integrity.

PS-As a KBR employee, I say "bring it on" to the FBI and, unlike John Effin, I mean it.

Because Halliburton is one of only two or three companies on the planet that do the particular work they do.

First the phony "explosivesgate", now another phony "Halliburtongate". This is the left's version of that quarter century-old DUI in 2000. And since stupid people are suckers for propaganda, this could very well work.

What an absoulte joke the crAP is.

Why don't you start investigating Kerry's discharge, you tools? Or Kerry's meetings with Madame Binh in Paris.

The crAP will stop at nothing to ensure the President's defeat.

This might have been successful if it had been the only attack. The constanct attacks in the last month against Bush, including Rathergate and NYTrogate, will probably cause this to be seen for what it is.

The Government Accountability Office? Is that anything like the Federal Bureau of Instigation?

THEY STILL CANT GET OVER THE OVER-CHARGING?!?!?!?

THERE WAS A REASON FOR THAT!! The oil coming out of Kuwait was more expensive at that time, therefore making the prices go up.

DUH! THis is a non issue.

No, it won't. The undecideds are down to 2% according to Zogby. The media-fatigue is crushing the electorate. The public wants this election over with yesterday.

Don't worry.

Ok FREEPERS....WHO is Bunnatine Greenhouse?? Who has she donated money to? Who is she related to?

Also, does anyone know if Lady Bird Johnson and her two daughters still own a ton of stock in Halliburton?

Does anyone at Associated Press, New York Times, CBS, et al, realize that they are participating in unfair late attacks and think that this behavior is unseemly?

Wonder if the FBI will ever be interested in how the DNC and the Kerry campaign co-ordinated threats to advertisers on Sinclair Broadcasting.

From what I know about Federal contracting, it can often take 6 months, a year, or more from start to the day the contract is awarded and work can begin. If the Iraq reconstruction contracts had followed the normal competitive bid process, the Kerrybots would now be bitching about the delays. What's more, if the contracting process was started before the war actually began (to minimize startup delays), there would be even more bitching about "rushing to war", and failing to pass the "global test" administered by the UN.
