Four years ago, in the final weeks before the presidential election, cash-strapped Democrats faced an excruciating tactical choice for their advertising dollars: Ohio or Florida? They chose the latter, and lost both.
Now, Democratic nominee John F. Kerry is on the television airwaves in full force in both crucial states, according to data from Republican and Democratic sources and an independent advertising monitor.
Kerry's spots, on average, are getting seen by more TV viewers in Ohio and Florida in the closing days of a tight election than President Bush's. When ads from parties and outside groups are factored in, the data show, the two sides are roughly at parity in the paid TV combat for the 47 electoral votes in the two states.
That is a significant shift from then-Vice President Al Gore's financial position in his matchup with Bush 4 years ago. Without the benefit of ads to drive home his closing message, Gore lost to Bush in Ohio by fewer than four percentage points; had he won there, Bush's Florida victory would not have decided the election.

this concerns me that Kerry actually still has money and by last i heard more than BC04 has.
Yep, brilliant strategy.
If I lived in Ohio and Florida, I would either give up watching tv or else use the mute button often.
I live in Ohio and I hit the mute button very often! Would that I had a mute button for the radio commercials that run during Rush and Hannity.
Never have I heard such a pack of outrageous lies.
the ads are driving me nuts with kerry ads outnumbering bush about 3:1 here in cleveland. that's just my unofficial estimate. tuesday cannot get here fast enough.
I live in Ohio and the Kerry commercials have really been stepped up in the past week or so. They outnumber the Bush ads considerably.
I can't get over how many Kerry ads are on Rush, Hannity, Boortz, and FNC. Do the libs really think they're going to persuade dittoheads to vote for Kerry? Big waste of money.
Kerry is running Al Qaqaa ad in massive rotation. We will see very soon if this indeed hurts the President. Bush needs an attack theme to place the focus back on Kerry...and fast
I think Florida is close, but a "win" for Bush. I'd be afraid about fraud in Ohio in Wisconsin giving Kerry the edge. Which is why we need a nice margin of victory in those places. I wish I was seeing more of George on Wisconsin TV, although I understand that he will be here on Monday.
I live in Florida. Already voted and I live on FreeRepublic and Fox News. Sometimes I even turn off Fox News. Can't deal with it. I will be watching Scarborough Country tonight. I believe Laura Ingraham will be the host. Should be good.

this ad is bush's answer:

Once in a while I see a Bush ad, and it never addresses the economic and employment issues. I guess Bush has ceded these issues to the 'Rats. That is a huge strategic blunder because polls have indicated that this is the salient issue here. That could be enough to put Kerry over the top in the state.
If that scenario is correct, it might explain why Bush is spending a lot of time and effort in other states, like PA, MI, IA, and WI, perhaps as a hedge against losing OH. That would also be a mistake. We need to show some electoral strength in a heartland region like this in order to claim a mandate to govern. A narrow victory, which would probably be the best we could hope for if Bush loses OH, would be like 2000 all over again, with the 'Rats hammering at every turn about an "illegitimate" Presidency.

I suppose I need to think of it in terms of the Dems. wasting money.
Nevertheless, I was shocked to discover my 36 year old daughter honestly believed Bush was "sending" jobs overseas. She is a single mom who cannot afford satellite or cable tv so her "news" comes from commercials and the MSM.
She too, is "wiser now". :-)
