6 accused of voting twice may face charges
Houston Chronicle ^ | October 28, 2004 | KEVIN MORAN

GALVESTON - A half-dozen Galveston County voters could face criminal charges if a grand jury decides they intended to cast more than one early election ballot and commit voter fraud, officials said.

Since early voting opened Oct. 18, daily checks indicated that six people might have voted twice as of Monday, said Galveston County Clerk Mary Ann Daigle.

District Attorney Kurt Sistrunk said the cases will be submitted to a grand jury and indictments will be issued if the jury believes voting fraud occurred.

Voting twice is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, Sistrunk said.

More than 30,000 people had filled out ballots in Galveston County by the time the early-voting locations closed for the day Tuesday, Daigle said. The county has 185,880 registered voters.

"With the mail-in ballots that have been returned, the total vote is 36,452 so far," Daigle said.

Daigle said her staff is scrambling to keep 16 early-voting locations supplied with ballots for all 101 voting precincts. Because of the large turnout, some voters have had to wait until more ballots were delivered or return to vote an hour or so later, Daigle said.

"It makes us look bad, but we're doing the best we can and we're moving as fast as we can," Daigle said.

Early voting ends at 7 p.m. Friday.

Voter Fraud is TREASON.

Peggy Noonan said it best---Democracy is very fragile, you can't mess with it like this.

Galveston County was recently split into the 14th and 22nd congressional districts which are somewhat competitive.

You'll find out that early voting is a net plus for your state. Over time they'll get decent laws. My next door neighbor and wife got sent out of the country this week but they had already voted so it's OK. How many people get stuck working late on any given day? Did you ever commute to 90 minutes each way to work (like in Houston) and then try to find time to vote? Early voting works - embrace it. Tens of thousands of Republicans in your state are voting early. They'll count more than any fraud effort.

That's just awful.

Outraged Wisconsinites should march on the capital.

Get a rope !

This election fraud is a greater threat to America than any WMD IMHO.

When Nikita Kruschev banged his shoe on the table and declared, ‘We shall destroy
you from within’ during the infamous "Kitchen Debate" I'll suggest it was such as this tampering with our electoral process that was just one of that commie SOB's ideas.

Who'd a thunk such as Heir Kerr would keep Kruschev's dream alive........:o)

Hah!

Outraged wisconsinites would march on the capitol if the governor outlawed the packers, or banned deer hunting, or made saying 'ya der hey' illegal (JK on the last one). But otherwise, it's next to impossible.

One bright spot - individual districs / areas do act up: The state senate had RINO leader. She played politics with a constitutional amendment called the taxpayer bill of rights. Republicans in her district were pissed, and a republican state assemblyman ran against her in the primary. Never been done before.

She received a butt kicking unlike I've ever seen before. Nearly 80% to 20%. Turnout (in a primary, mind you) was so heavy they ran out of ballots.

So that's one good thing. If wisconsin could just get rid of madison and milwaukee, it would be a solid republican state.

Just like Maryland...We have Baltimore and the District voters in Maryland - other than that, we're Bush country.

Interesting take - myself I have been against all easy-voting measures fearing they allow the dems what they want - the ability to vote early and early and early and early and did I say often? But your confidence on the early voting and linking it for the working stiffs (more and more of the working stiffs are pubs) has some merit and interesting argument...

My family in Texas have already vote for Bush - and each only once.

My family in Israel has already voted for Bush, and also each only once. (Absentee Ballot)

I find it very hard to believe that half of the country would vote for a traitor, a liar and a slanderer over a man like Bush. Either the MSM are blatant liars, or half of America has gone insane!

maybe we could just set up a special state where all the liberals from otherwise conservative states could move to. Kinda like a wildlife refuge for failed political ideologies.

How could someone vote more than once? Absentee and then walk-in?

These were (almost certainly!) democrats, most likely in a repubbie county ( else they'ed never be noticed), who voted on two ballots using their own name.

Americans have fought and died to obtain and protect this right, and if there's any honesty behind the claim that democracy is valued beyond life in this country, then this should be a CAPITAL OFFENSE.

In other words, why should the attempt to steal the rights of Americans be viewed less than the attempt to steal their lives?

KINGKONGCOBRA WROTE: "Early voting makes it easy for working stiffs (Republicans) to get to the polls. We've had it in Texas for ages and it's one of the leading reasons that this is now an ALL Republican state. We love it here. Try it, you'll like it too. There is clearly a lot more Republicans who benefit than Democrats who might cheat. When legal votes are greatly increased (by early voting) the fraudulent votes become more diluted and less effective...Period!

EXACTLY!!!

As an Election Judge from Texas, I agree completely. Also, since Early Voters are marked in the Signature Book prior to election day, you can see if someone is trying to vote again.

However, that does not highlight someone voting in someone else's name or someone who might have been able to get a Govt-issued photo ID in a made up name or someone voting in two different states (I'm not sure about different counties).

I have noticed on this year's rolls that a lot of duplicate names have been removed. In my several years as an Election Judge, I do not ever recall seeing any duplicate names in my precinct ever voting more than once in the same election.

I have been told recently (and have heard similar stories in the past), that the RATS go around to nursing homes and minority areas and get people to SIGN a BLANK APPLICATION to receive a Mail-In Ballot (i.e. where the voter doesn't have to be SEEN by an election official prior to voting). That way, the SIGNATURES MATCH, but they can put whatever ADDRESS they want, so that the actual ballot comes to the fraudulent voter, not the "real" voter.

I was told that a local minority Republican candidate's mother was approached by such methods. The RATS kind of picked on the wrong person!

I contend that FL is the premier location of voting irregularities. A great percentage of people within the state have permanent address in FL as well as other states such as MI, NY, etc etc. The month of November is prime FL
living time for snow birds of the dual vote, and since I am speculating, allow me to continue by saying the falsified votes number in the thousands, perhaps even tens of thousands.

I am a Republican Pct. Judge here in Galveston County and this is the first I have seen or heard about this. I fear that Rats may be trying to disenfranchise some of our Republicans. Rat's don't get Rat's!
