The Truth Behind The Draft - PLEASE FORWARD THIS CHAIN LETTER ASAP!!
Aaron Margolis, Matt Margolis

Posted on 10/27/2004 7:52:36 PM PDT by djjava

To concerned citizens,

For too long now, anonymous parties have been purporting lies about who is behind the effort to bring back the first compulsory military draft since the Vietnam War. Recent polls suggest this effort was successful in convincing young people that the Bush Administration wants to reinstate the draft.

YOU ARE BEING LIED TO. DEMOCRATS WERE THE ONLY ONES WHO SUPPORTED A DRAFT

The twin bills in Congress, HR 163 and SB 89, were both introduced and co-sponsored by DEMOCRATS--not Republicans. HR 163 was recently brought to vote, and failed with 402 votes against, 2 in favor. The two votes in favor were Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA) (one of the original co-sponsors) and Rep. John Murtha (D-CA).

Even the fourteen other Representatives who signed their names on the bill as a sponsor or co-sponsor voted against the bill, proving that their intent was to pervert the legislative process by endorsing a piece of legislation in order to purport its culpability on President Bush and the Republicans.

JOHN KERRY IS THE ONLY CANDIDATE WHO HAS PROPOSED MANDATORY SERVICE FOR STUDENTS

Earlier this campaign season, John Kerry had proposed a mandatory service plan for high school graduates – which he would implement in his first 100 days of taking office!! This proposal has "mysteriously" disappeared from his site today, but has been archived at this link:

THE DEMOCRATS' DRAFT BILL FAILED, BUT THEIR SPIN STILL LIVES ON

After HR 163 failed in the House, President Bush stated that “America’s all-volunteer military is the best in the world, and reinstating the draft would be bad policy." During the second presidential debate, Bush reiterated this sentiment, "we're not going to have a draft, period. The all-volunteer army works...Now, forget all this talk about a draft. We're not going to have a draft so long as I am the president."

Senators John Kerry and John Edwards, and DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe are only a few of the Democrats that have repeatedly and falsely accused President Bush and Republicans for secretly pushing for a military draft--and they still are. They are lying. They are trying to scare into thinking that instead of spending your college years in the classroom and at parties, you'll be fighting in a war. The only way young people are sent to fight is to volunteer to do so, and President Bush has assured us of this, and he has not wavered.

The reverse projection hoax about the draft is not just
about military service, it's about Universal National
Service.

And we may safely assume that what K&E really want is
represented by Rangel's HR163, an open-ended Universal
National Service. Two years (for starters) of slavery
and indoctrination for everyone. See:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1247833/posts#19
for more info (and pass it along as well).

Lincoln took the first steps to end slavery.
Kerry wants to take the first steps to bring it back.

Chris Heinz has been campus hopping spreading the draft lie. He was on Nightline earlier this week. The facts were actually provided, and Chris was asked why he believes Bush will bring back the draft. With a sneer, Chris said, "because he's lied about everything else." They had interviews with students who were swayed by this con-artist.

But there's more to it than that: Kerry needs the Bush/draft lie because, even though he's moved into Howard Dean territory and is trying to be the 'peace candidate', he knows that even he may need to fight a war against terrorists and their sponsors. He also knows the revulsion the professional military feels toward him.

A few years of bogus peace after a hasty withdrawal from Iraq, when stop loss orders can't be issued, followed by a war triggered by his incompetence on security measures, and it will be Kerry who will demand a military draft. Then he'll claim, "See, Bush would have done it sooner, but even I couldn't stop it."

The only way there will be a draft is if Kerry gets in:

Noone is going to volunteer to serve under him, so a draft will become necessary.

THIS IS INSANE! This man plans on Hitlerian control of our Nation's Youth! His view of the Presidency is outrageous. (Read between the ** for quick alarm)

http://web.archive.org/web/20040210043828/http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/natservice/#

Creating a New Army of Patriots

As President, John Kerry will have the courage to lead and call on all Americans to make our nation stronger. - John Kerry will call on all Americans - tapping into the idealism and ingenuity of Americans and putting it to work on building a safer, stronger, and more secure nation. .. Whether it is a Summer of Service for our teenagers, helping young people serve their country in return for college, or the Older Americans in Service program, John Kerry's plan will call on every American of every age and every background to serve.  **John Kerry will set a goal of one million Americans a year in national service within the next decade.**

?John Kerry Outlines Plan to Require Service for High School Students

Part of 100 days Plan to Enlist One Million Americans in National Service A Year

...As part of his 100 day plan to change America, John Kerry will propose a comprehensive service plan that includes **requiring mandatory service for high school students** and four years of college tuition in exchange for two years of national service.

?National Service Plan Highlights

"Service for College" Initiative

As President, John Kerry will call on young people to help strengthen America's security and address unmet community needs. In return, he believes we should offer young Americans and their families the opportunity for a college education. A Kerry Administration will offer Americans the chance to earn the equivalent of their state's four-year public college tuition in exchange for two years of service. If service members decide not to go to college, their award can be used for job training or to help start a business. John Kerry will set a national goal of half a million young people serving their nation every year within ten years. President Bush promised to double AmeriCorps, but he broke that promise and let Congressional Republicans cut the program in half. John Kerry believes we need to think big and do better and **get 500,000 young Americans serving the nation.**

?High School Service Requirement

As President, John Kerry will ensure that **every high school student in America performs community service as a requirement for graduation**.  This service will be a rite of passage for our nation’s youth and will help foster a lifetime of service. States would design service programs that meet their community and educational needs.  However, John Kerry does not believe in unfunded mandates.  No state would be obligated to implement a service requirement if the federal government does not live up to its obligation to fund the program.

?Creating a New Community Defense Service

John Kerry believes we must create a new Community Defense Service to be guided by our nation’s first responders.  This service would be comprised of hundreds of thousands of Americans in neighborhoods all over the country. Service captains would be there to make sure our communities have the information they need and are ready to respond a crisis, complimenting but not supplanting the work done by police, fire fighters, and other first defenders. Volunteer Service Captains would receive training and education to assist their communities in the event of an attack. They would be trained to help identify local health professionals and experts in the area, provide information on local evacuation or quarantine plans, and stand ready to be of assistance to first defenders. This initiative would be funded out of the Department of Homeland Security and administered by local community leaders, including first responders. This 'surge' capacity would be in addition to the expanded numbers of first responders John Kerry has already proposed hiring.

?A Summer of Service for Teenagers

Thirteen to seventeen year olds are too old for child care and too young for many summer jobs. John Kerry believes we should tap their energy and idealism through a summer of service learning. Supervised by AmeriCorps members, these young people could help out in nursing homes, clean up local areas, or teach seniors computer skills. In turn, they would receive a $500 grant to apply to their college or vocational educations down the road. Parents do not want to leave their children alone all summer but most cannot afford other means of care. The Summer of Service program would give parents peace of mind and at the same time build more responsible and dedicated young citizens and stronger, more vibrant communities.

?Recruiting More Americans to the Military

The highest form of service is military service. America's military is having trouble recruiting and is increasingly relying on the reserves for active duty. John Kerry believes we must change that. The complicated missions we face and technologies we use depend on it. In a Kerry Administration, **no university that receives federal aid will be allowed to ban the ROTC from their campus,** except for religious reasons. And the ROTC scholarship program will be adequately funded so that students can attend the college of their choice. John Kerry will also make modernizing our GI benefits a top priority, because no program has been more successful increasing educational opportunities for veterans while also providing an incentive for the best and brightest to make a career out of military

Lincoln took the first steps to end slavery. Kerry wants to take the first steps to bring it back.

Regarding a reinstatement of the draft:

These are very troubled times in which we live. Lunatics from the other side of the world want to kill us en masse. We must maintain a strong military to confront those lunatics on their own soil to keep them from attacking us here on ours. We currently have a strong volunteer military with dedication beyond belief. They have protected us well over the years and deserve a huge, huge thank you from all of us.

BUT!!!!

All of that might change in several months if John Kerry is elected President.

Again, we have an 'all volunteer' military. 78% of those in uniform loathe John Kerry for how he slandered his fellow soldiers in the 1970's and how he is slandering them now. If he is elected, a mass exodus will occur from our 'all volunteer' military. And with the lunatics still wanting to slaughter us en masse, Mr Kerry will have no option but to re-institute the draft.......
