Homeowner's Elaborate Rigging Busts Kerry Sign Thief

POSTED: 9:22 am EDT October 27, 2004 WINONA, Minn. -- A Minnesota man has come up with an elaborate way to catch the people stealing John Kerry campaign signs from his yard.

And it almost worked the other day.

Rick Carpenter screwed his 2-by-4-foot Kerry sign to the wall of his house and coated it with Vaseline. His wife, Veronica, chipped in by running fishing line from the sign into the house and tying it to wind chimes.

The chimes sounded about 1 a.m. Saturday. Carpenter said he was out the door so fast he forgot he wasn't wearing pants.

Carpenter said four of the five culprits fled. One apologetic woman remained behind, saying she couldn't stop her Bush-supporting boyfriend from going after the sign. She told Carpenter she likes Kerry.

The Carpenters let the woman go without calling police.

The media is playing up all stories on Kerry signs being stolen and giving any visuals they can. Then they SAY it is happening to the Bush/Cheney signs too. (As a passive observer, I think the wind chimes and vaseline idea is kind of clever.) I personally would prefer a big plastic bucket of flour rigged in a tree. But that is ME.

Ah. No evidence at all that any of this happened.

The new journalistic standards of the Kerry-sociated press on display.

Coat the sign in super-hot, distilled *scotch bonnets* pepper oils, and the perps will wind-up in an emergency room.

The homeowner had no pants, and the Kerry supporters thought he was a Clintonista.

You would have plenty of problems once somebody got electrocuted.

Better still, mix the pepper oil with vaseline and DMSO.

Note: do NOT get any of the mix onto your bare skin -- the effect is incredibly unpleasant; think fire ants running up and down inside your arms. In short, just exactly what a sign thief deserves.

Yep...and in many of the cases were this crap has occured against Republicans, they are supported by police reports and witnesses. I'd like to know just how long the AP had to dig for this unsupported story, when examples of Democrat thuggery are rampant throughout the country.

This is how the MSM is playing the moral equivalency game.

Republican offices are vandalized, shot at, broken into with computers stolen, people's arms broken, swastikas sprayed on lawns, etc., and we get a story of vaseline on a Kerry sign to ward off vandals, and oh, some vandalism happened to Republicans too.
