Posted on 10/27/2004 11:08:29 AM PDT by Gucho

By Steve Keating ST LOUIS (Reuters) - Boston Red Sox fans awoke on Wednesday with their impossible dream on the brink of becoming a reality.

The Red Sox will step onto Busch Stadium field tonight under a lunar eclipse needing one more victory over the St Louis cardinals to clinch their first World Series title since 1918 and put to rest forever the "Curse of the Bambino."

An overlooked choice is Orlando Cabrera. Every single RISP at-bat of his has been productive these 3 games.

Game 1: HBP, bases-loaded RBI single
Game 2: 2-RBI 1B
Game 3: 1B to move Damon to 3B, leadoff 2B to get his own self in scoring position

Or give it to Theo Epstein. He constructed this lethal team.

Now that's good whiskey. I bought my brother a bottle of it for last Christmas, and he's still got some left.

Saw her in concert recently as the first act with Brooks & Dunn and another, forgettable group.

She was DEFINITELY the hottest of the bunch!

I buy myself a bottle every year for Christmas.

I take 2 fingers for my birthday, 2 fingers for Memorial Day, and 2 fingers for the 4th of July.

...and the rest gets down my gullet on the night of the last Sox game every year.

THIS time (knocking loudly on the nearest wood) will hopefully be celebratory drinking instead of the "drowning my sorrows" drinking of past years.

Middleton's...neat.

I agree. I have never met anyone from Boston (I use to go there on occasions for business) or the surrounding area who really holds a hateful grudge against him. It is all seems to be in a good natured competitive spirit.

I think Larusa seriously screwed up game 2. When the deep analysis hits I think the big question of the series is why take a guy (Morris) who was 6-7 on the road and 9-4 at home and had never in his career pitched on short rest and move him up a game to pitch on the road on short rest. They basically took him from a position where he had a good chance and moved him to a position where he was doomed. Maybe they didn't have anybody else ready to go in game 2, but right now that looks like the series losing decision.

Steve Williams is congratulated by his attorney Michael Hassen, right, after the top bid of $804,129 for the San Francisco Giants Barry Bonds' 700th home run ball was announced in Redwood City, Calif., Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004. The ball had received 240 offers after a 10-day online auction. Williams got the ball after a scramble in the left-center field bleachers on Sept. 17, 2004 at SBC Park in San Francisco.

What are the odds on 2 different teams coming back from being down 3-0...CONSECUTIVELY in the same post season?

All things being equal, the odds are 1 in 16. There are four games the Cards have to win, each game's odds are 50%, or 1 in 2. Multiply them all, and you get 1 in 16.

That's IF "all things are equal", which they aren't... ain't gonna happen... :-)

There is history behind your opinion. La Russa managed what was in my opinion one of the most talented teams in history for several years in Oakland, and only managed to win one World Series - against a flawed Giants team that played way over their heads to get that far.

And in a series where he only had to start 2 pitchers, given the earthquake that postponed Game 3 for a week.

Hopefully they will lose for no other reason than JFnK is from the same liberal craphole as them.

No, no, no... Kerry said he'd take either a Red Sox World Series win or the White House. Let's hope for our choice ;-P

The Boston Sports Guy's column for today, including a link to a very long, but very moving thread at Sons of Sam Horn:

The Next Win Is For Everyone

Living less than 10 miles down the road from Ron Guidry's hometown, we have more Damn Yankees fans around here than is healthy. So...

Win this one for those of us who are members of Red Sox Nation living in exile, especially the ones who had a little part of them die in 1986.

And, win this one for Cubs fans. If one curse can be broken, there's hope for the Bleacher Bums at Wrigley.
