Posted on 10/27/2004 11:08:29 AM PDT by Gucho

By Steve Keating ST LOUIS (Reuters) - Boston Red Sox fans awoke on Wednesday with their impossible dream on the brink of becoming a reality.

The Red Sox will step onto Busch Stadium field tonight under a lunar eclipse needing one more victory over the St Louis cardinals to clinch their first World Series title since 1918 and put to rest forever the "Curse of the Bambino."

OK, tonight's the big game and not only is the moon full, there's a total eclipse. Can someone tell me what steps the Sox have taken to keep Johnny Damon going into the outfield and howling at the moon or turning into something hideous?

Is security equipped with silver bullets? pardon duplicate post

Lowe has the chance to make history tonight-- winning 3 clinching games in the same postseason. It's never been done.

La Russa seemed so battered last night, the Cards and St. Louis fans, too. Boston fans felt sorry for them, but hey, we've suffered for more eighty-six years. Year after year after year, etc.. Taking a leaf from the Red Sox playbook,(they've said they take it one game at a time), La Russa did say hesitantly that he thought the Cards might be able to win one game. But he didn't look as if he believed it. Well, sorry, St. Louis. It's Boston's year. Even if the Cards win one game, the Sox win is inevitable. And with that unfortunate death from a police pellet gun amid the mobbed streets outside Fenway after the American League Conference win, some Boston fans are saying it's better to wrap this up in St. Louis. We'll still have a victory parade, but if it's held at noon, there'll be less drunkenness. Maybe. Let's face it, champagne's being bought by the carload.

Well, I bet the Yankees thought the same thing...

I hope NESN makes a whole DVD of stuff like that. They had an intro for today's Sports Desk with clips of Pedro this season set to Lose Yourself by Eminem and it gave me chills. I could have watched it a hundred times.

God help us, we're cursed with Fat Teddy and Kerry as senators, that's enough, more than enough. Let the Babe's curse be lifted once and for all, please. (Notice I didn't mention JF..ing Kerry as possible President. I can't deal with that.) Plus the moon's turning red tonight during the eclipse. That has to mean something special, and a MA. highway crew dug up an old license plate the other morning, dated 1918! One of my friends wears her '86 Red Sox cap all the time, even sleeps with it. My other friend wears her cap constantly, but can't watch the games...or we'll lose. So last night she watched the Discovery special on the big bang, and now understands how the universe began, the answer to everything -- membrane theory and eleven parallel universes. We're all set. All signs point to the Red Sox victory.

"When you got a guy hanging over the cliff holding on with one hand, you don't want him to get his other hand up there. You want to go ahead and stomp on it." -- Trot Nixon

I want them to end this now. This team knows how important it is to end it now.

Interestingly, the Red Sox in the ALCS believed they could win the whole series if they could win Game 4. That's why they kept fighting so hard in Game 4. They knew they had Schilling and Pedro in Game 5 and 6 and then they knew they had a puncher's chance in Game 7 against the bottom of the Yankee's rotation. I'm not at all sure that the Cardinals truly believe that. Do they look at their situation and say that they have Williams and Morris in Game 5 and 6 and feel confident about that?

I don't think the mindset is the same as Game 4 of the ALCS.

Relax! Johnny Damon's Game 7 ALCS grand slam cast the ring back into the fires of Mordor (yanqui stadium). The Curse of the Bambino is dead, the Curse of the Hillarino lives!!

LOL, good point!
