Kerry Forces Deploy Last Minute Ads In West Viginia, Arkansas and Hawaii (strategery discussion)
ABC News ^ | 10/27/04 | Marc Halperin

The Kerry campaign is expressing concern about daily tracking polls that show President Bush gaining ground in Florida and Ohio.

Bush aides insist that the election will once again be decided in Florida, and annouced that he will be spending Saturday night in Orlando.

Bush's (current) travel plans show he will be playing defense in Ohio and New Hampshire, both of which he won in 2000, but is investing the rest of his time in the next few days trying to wrest states from the Democratic column.

Karl Rove said 2/3 of Bush's stops in the final two weeks will be in states that he lost to Al Gore.

Democrats are shifting their resources to defend Hawaii, but are also eying West Virginia and Arkansas.

A DNC official said last night that the party will probably be on the air with a TV ad by today in West Virgina, and Moveon.Org has bought TV times as well.

Of Arkansas, the offical said that Moveon.Org has made a modest TV buy and The Media Fund has purchased radio ads.

Lot more Bush signs than Kerry signs around Central Ark, but my politically silent co-workers here all of a sudden have come out for Kerry.

I know Arkansas was a toss up in 2000, any one got the West Virginia totals from last time?

Out here I get to watch the whole return reporting at reasonable hours. Seems to me, if the Kerry team needs to shore up Hawaii, his internals are worried about states in the EST zone.

I'm not thinking that GWB will take HI or NJ, BUT I do see two good things to come from it.

1)Kerry is forced to divest his remaining resources into so called 'safe-havens' - it helps show the nation general weakness in Kerryville, and may give some fence sitters a reason to move their votes back to W

2)This helps to assure that losing the popular vote won't happen again.

If the Kerry campaign is announcing precisely where Move on.org is buying ads and is ensuring they are in the same states as the campaign, does than mean they are in collusion?

Some group is running radio ads here in Arkansas rehashing the Michael Moore/Bush let the Bin Laden family leave after 9/11 BS. I heard them on two stations on the way in this morning too. The group sponsoring the ads has a website: www.mediafund04.org/saudis.

I'm sure Kerry/Edwards will be condemning these ads soon, right?

Just heard another snippet of the president's speech. He says Kerry denigrating the troops without knowing all the facts. It's part of a Kerry pattern. Saying things without knowing all the facts! Of course Flopsweat is saying this is part of a "growing scandal"...Sounds like he's trying to make it into some Abu Graib II. Makes sense...the NY Slimes has been trying to revive the prison scandal and we know where john Kerry is getting his talking points.

being a relative newbie, I sometimes wonder what FR is like when there is no election to talk about. I wish I had discovered you guys years ago.

It's different. In some ways, it's more fun. Around election time, people get edgy and nervous, and people tend to overreact to the slightest bit of bad news.

Anyway, stick around and find out for yourself!

I do think Kerry is physically incapable of keeping up the pace necessary in this last 6 days before the election.

He is not in good health, IMHO. There has not been enough emphasis put on the fact that Edwards is just a heartbeat away from being President!

I'm not thinking that GWB will take HI or NJ, BUT I do see two good things to come from it.

It seems unlikely, especially given how badly he lost them in 2000. However, he's even in both of them right now. I'm using NJ as my bellwether state on Election night. If Bush is close, and certainly if he outright wins that state, he's going win the election, probably by a significant amount of electoral votes.

I hope Bush makes another visit to NJ before the election.

Well that is not hard to figure out. Look at the polls. The states up for grabs are Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnestota. Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida.

You will note six of the eight states up for grabs are states Gore won and two of the eight states up for grabs are the states Bush won. If Bush gave each of the battleground states the same attention he would spend 3/4 of the time in states Gore won. But the ratio is 1/3 Ohio/Flordia and 2/3 the Gore won states.

ABC seems to have missed Kerry attacking our troops again, just like he did in 1971, it seems to be a habit with him.
